Given the fact that neither Austria or Turkey have managed to keep a clean sheet at Euro 2024 so far, backing both teams to score looks a good value option on Tuesday night.

Austria have only failed to score in one of their previous 19 matches, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in 11 of those games, a sample that includes two of their three Group D assignments at Euro 2024. What’s more, Ralf Rangnick’s side emerged from their group as the second-highest scoring team in the tournament with their tally of six strikes.

Meanwhile, Two of Turkey’s Group F fixtures featured goals at both ends, as did two of their three pre-tournament warm-up matches. The Crescent Stars have scored at least once in eight of their last nine competitive matches, with their only blank during that period coming against Portugal

On top of this, Austria dished out a 6-1 drubbing to Turkey in a friendly in March of this year. While Tuesday’s night’s tussle between the pair should be a much tighter affair, both sides landing a blow looks like a strong runner at the Red Bull Arena.

With goals expected to be on the agenda in Leipzig, it also makes sense to go with over 2.5 goals at an attractive price. Four of Austria’s last six games have featured three or more goals, with two of their group games at Euro 2024 delivering four and five match strikes respectively. It’s also worth pointing out that seven of Das Team’s last 12 meaningful matches would have proven a successful path to over 2.5 goals profit.

Turkey, on the other hand, saw each of their opening three assignments at Euro 2024 generate over 2.5 goals. In fact, eight of Turkey’s last 12 matches have produced at least three goals, not to mention the Crescent Stars have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their past nine outings across all competitions.

With that in mind, all the evidence points towards another high-scoring match-up involving Austria and Turkey on Tuesday night.

Stefan Posch was a serial offender during the group stage of Euro 2024 and he is likely to be on the referee’s radar again on Tuesday night. The Austrian right-back committed no fewer than nine fouls across his opening three appearances of the competition, including four in his side’s 3-1 success against Poland.

The 27-year-old was averaging one foul per-game during Euro 2024 qualifying, whilst his foul tally duering the most recent Serie A season with Bologna sat at 1.15 per 90 minutes. As such, it’s clear to see that Posch has a habit for giving away fouls, and there is plenty of scope for that to continue here given the pace and flair that Turkey possess in wide areas.

Having committed 2+ fouls in each of his three outings at Euro 2024 so far, Posch looks well placed to do so again in a game where tensions and tempers are expected to be strained.

Austria are odds-on favourites to win this tie inside 90 minutes and it’s easy to see why given their rapid rise under Ralf Rangnick. Das Team have lost just two of their last 19 matches, a sequence that stretches all the way back to November 2022. The only two real blots on their record across that run came against Belgium and France, two games in which Austria will consider themselves unlucky to have come away from empty-handed.

While Turkey triumphed in two of their Group F fixtures, both of those matches were in the balance for long periods, not to mention that represents the Crescent Star’s only two victories across their last eight matches.

Austria, in contrast, will have gained immense confidence from their group stage performance and they can maintain their momentum at Turkey’s expense. The absence of suspended Turkey captain Hakan Calhanoglu also boosts the Austrian’s chances of taking their place in the last eight.

Operating in a more advanced role, Marcel Sabitzer has been one of many standout performers for Austria under wily tactician Ralf Ragnick. After netting the winning goal against the Netherlands last time out, Sabitzer has now scored six times across his last 13 appearances for Austria. The 30-year-old has averaged one shot on target per-game at Euro 2024, whilst his on-target average of 1.14 during qualifying is further proof of the threat that he offers in the final-third. Sabitzer scored against the Dutch by making a bursting run into the box, but he also specialises in long-range shots.

Despite getting out of Group F, Turkey have proven fragile at the back, conceding five goals in three outings at Euro 2024, meaning they have failed to silence their opponents in eight of their last nine assignments.

Given his recent goalscoring record for Austria, Sabitzer merits strong consideration to capitalise on Turkey’s defensive deficiencies.

To say Turkey’s 2-1 win over the Czech Republic was an ill-tempered affair would be an understatement. Referee Istvan Kovacs handed out 16 yellows and two reds during a heated battle in Hamburg. While a repeat card count here is highly unlikely, six or more bookings looks well within reach at the Red Bull Arena.

Games involving Turkey are typically quite fiery encounters, with the Crescent Stars’ fixtures during Euro 2024 qualifying averaging 6.63 cards per-game. The fact Turkey have been shown three or more team cards in seven of their last eight competitive contests is further evidence that they are a side that aren’t afraid to get stuck in.

Throw in the fact that Austria committed more fouls (49) than any other nation during the group stages of Euro 2024 then another feisty fixture looks likely from Leipzig. Two of Austria’s three Group D games featured six or more cards, as did two of their final three Euro 2024 qualifiers.
