The best picks for Saturday's Scottish League Cup action

Dundee have won two of their three matches in the group stage of the League Cup, notably scoring 10 goals across those games (3.33 per game), which is one of the best scoring records in the competition.

They’ve played one game at home so far, coming away 4-2 winners over Airdrieonians, and I expect a similar sort of game here against a Clyde side who lost their only away game of the campaign in the League Cup so far, falling to a 3-1 defeat against Ross County.

There’s still plenty of work for Dundee to do if they are to top this group, as they currently sit one point behind Ross County. They do have a superior goal difference, and extending that advantage could see them top this group.

Montrose have been flawless in the League Cup so far, winning all three of their matches to nil.

They sit level with Dundee United, who are top of the table, but have played a game more than Montrose.

This is the best opportunity that Montrose could have asked for to steal an advantage in this group as they take on a Spartans side who have lost all three of their matches, conceding nine goals in the process and only scoring twice.

The two sides also played twice last year in the Challenge Cup, with Montrose winning those games 2-1 and 3-1.

Both of these sides rank within the bottom five sides in the League Cup when it comes to goals conceded.

Dumbarton have conceded 4+ goals in all three of their matches in the competition, conceding five goals against East Kilbride last time out.

Dumbarton have managed to get on the scoresheet themselves in two of these games, and will now see this game as a bit of a free hit, seeing as they are six points away from any possible qualification.

Cove Rangers have conceded 2+ goals in all three of their matches, with toese games also seeing at least 3+ goals.

They are in a slightly better position than Dumbarton, having won one of their three matches, though only a convincing victory here is likely to give them a chance of qualifying.

Ross County are in a pretty healthy position here ahead of this game, having won two of their three matches.

They still have some work to do to ensure they qualify for the next round, as their group is quite tightly packed with both Dundee and Clyde within two points of the group leaders.

Airdrie have only managed to win one of their three games in the League Cup, with that victory coming against an Annan Athletic side who have lost all four of their matches, conceding 16 goals in the process.
