Man City are in a strong position as they host Copenhagen on Wednesday evening, having won the first leg 3-1. Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne were the ones pulling the strings in the first leg, each contributing a goal and an assist. Rodri was also influential, often dictating the tempo with his 99 accurate passes.
Pep Guardiola will want to retain the Champions League this season and will be sure not to underestimate Copenhagen. The Danish side made it out of a tough group, notably beating Man United at home and drawing 0-0 with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, a scoreline that no other team has managed against Bayern this season in any competition.
Man City come into this one off the back of a 3-1 victory in the Manchester derby, coming back from 1-0 down. This extended their unbeaten run to 19 games, 17 of which have been victories. This is an important week for them, where they could secure their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals and top the Premier League table should they win at Anfield on the weekend.
Copenhagen currently sit third in the Danish Superligaen, having won two of their last three league matches. They aim to create history in this clash, as Copenhagen have never managed an away win against an English side in a European competition.
Although this game looks to be fairly one-sided, there are still plenty of great opportunities for a bet. This article aims to break down the key stats behind this one, using data from the Man City v Copenhagen Cheat Sheet.

🏆 Match stats: Man City to coast through into the quarters
Man City have scored an average of 2.30 goals this season in the Premier League, and an average of 3.0 goals per game in the Champions League. They are also unbeaten in the Champions League this campaign, having won all seven of their games so far.
Copenhagen have not won an away match in the Champions League since December 2016 (which came against Club Brugge). Furthermore, the last time they faced City away from home was in October 2022, a match that ended 5-0 in favour of Guardiola’s gang. Copenhagen had just 25% of possession and managed two shots compared to Man City’s 30. It’s safe to say Copenhagen are in for a long night.
This narrative opens up some interesting angles in the handicap betting markets, especially given the low odds of simply backing a Man City win. If you’re unfamiliar, these markets require Man City to win by a certain margin, eg Man City (-1) needs Man City to win by two or more goals to land.
Predictions:
⚽ Man City -1 handicap @ 1.36
⚽ Man City -2 handicap @ 1.91
🥅 Goals stats: Prince Philip
Phil Foden is at a record goal tally individually for a single season (18 across all competitions), and it’s only the start of March. He was once again the standout performer at the weekend, bagging two goals against Manchester United. He also recorded four shots on target from a total of nine shots.
In the away leg against Copenhagen, he managed three shots on target from five shots, securing Man City’s victory in the 92nd minute. So far in the Premier League, Foden has averaged 3.07 shots and 1.26 shots on target per match. His averages are higher in the Champions League: 4.0 and 1.50 respectively.
Despite only starting five matches, Foden has seven goal contributions so far in the Champions League, the most of any Man City player. Given his strong form recently, Foden is expected to be vital once again for City on Wednesday evening.
Predictions:
⚽ Phil Foden to score or assist @ 1.73
⚽ Phil Foden to score @ 2.50
⚽ Phil Foden to assist @ 3.0
🚩 Corners stats: Man City, the corner kings
No team has managed more corners in the Premier League than Man City, who have seen an average of 7.93 per game. When isolating their home games, this average rises to 8.29. In each of their last five Premier League games, Man City have taken at least eight corners (15, 8, 10, 12, 9).
In fact, 74% of Man City’s home matches have seen over 8.5 total corners, with over 9.5 landing 63% of the time and. Over 10.5 has landed 59% of the time. Again, across Man City’s last five in the Premier League, the over 8.5 has landed 100% of the time, with the over 10.5 line winning in 80% of those matches.
Man City will likely perform well in the corner handicap market given Copenhagen’s poor corners record in the Champions League. In their last game against Man City, Copenhagen managed just two corners. Furthermore, across their group-stage games, they averaged 4.0 corners for, conceding 6.33.
This market works similarly to the match handicap markets, with Man City (-4) needing to take at least five more corners than Copenhagen for the bet to land.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 8.5 total corners @ 1.50
⚽ Over 9.5 total corners @ 1.85
⚽ Over 10.5 total corners @ 2.40
⚽ Man City -4 corner handicap @ 2.0
🛑 Fouls stats: Foden loves to wind up his opponents
Foden has won an average of 1.57 fouls per game in the Premier League, winning four at the weekend against Man United. His pace, skill, and technical ability often leads to his opponents committing clumsy challenges, and this can be expected to happen on Wednesday.
He is predicted to start against Magnus Mattsson and Elias Jelert, who both usually play down Copenhagen’s right-hand side. The former committed a foul against Man City in their last meeting and has now committed at least one foul in three of his last four appearances. Jelert has an average of 0.69 fouls per game in the Danish Superligaen so far, picking up four bookings from 17 starts.
Copenhagen will be keeping close tabs on Foden given his electric form recently, and try to limit the space he finds.
Predictions:
⚽ Phil Foden to be fouled 2+ times @ 1.83
⚽ Phil Foden to be fouled 3+ times @ 3.60
