Betting Heartbreak

I was on a fanciful ante-post Winner/Top Goalscorer forecast in 2021/22. It was for Forest Green to win League Two and Matty Stevens to be Top Goalscorer at odds of 500/1. Rovers duly obliged although having been strong all season they limped over the line and won the title on goal difference. Stevens started on fire to give the bet a real chance from the first whistle scoring in each of the first four league games bagging five goals in total. Having scored consistently through the campaign I was looking forward to his fixture with league whipping boys Scunthorpe who finished bottom conceding 90 goals in the process. Disaster struck after 15 minutes as Stevens suffered an ACL knee injury which ruled him out of the remaining eight games and eventually for eight months. At the time he was on 23 league goals with Dom Telford going on to claim top goalscorer with 25.
