The Spaniard started off on the right foot, restricting Osasuna to just two shots as his side eased to a 1-0 victory in gameweek 1. Unlike last season, where games became a bit transitional and chaotic, the focus for Alonso will be on exerting complete control over their opponents. While that might make for less entertaining matches, it certainly is a proven strategy for winning titles, which will be Alonso’s target. 

Los Blancos will definitely need to improve in the final third, though - for all their dominance against Osasuna, they scored just one goal, which came from the penalty spot. Excluding that shot, Real Madrid managed 0.85 xG from 17 efforts.
