2 Selections @ 1.89

Dundee United Double Chance @ 1.65

I’m surprised to see Dundee United as such big outsiders here and they simply look too big to ignore as a Double Chance selection at 1.65. Only Celtic, Rangers and Hibernian finished above Jim Goodwin’s team in last season’s Scottish Premiership table, while newly-promoted Falkirk have not played top-flight football for 15 years.

Last season Dundee United collected almost half (26) of their overall points tally of 53 away from home, avoiding defeat in 12 of their 19 Scottish Premiership away games. While this will be a momentous occasion for Falkirk and their fans, I suspect Dundee United’s superior nous and experience at this level will see them come through their season opener relatively unscathed.

Dundee United Over 0.5 Goals @ 1.39

This selection only restricts us via Dundee United avoiding defeat and it being 0-0, yet it takes the bet builder from 1.65 to 1.89.

Dundee United look overpriced to score at least once at the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday. Falkirk aren’t likely to sacrifice the attacking principles which have brought them this far, so Dundee United should be presented with ample opportunity to make their mark. Jim Goodwin’s side scored away from home in a Europa Conference League qualifier on Thursday evening, not to mention they made the net bulge in 15 of their 19 Scottish Premiership away games last season.

Falkirk failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their final four league games last season en route to the Scottish Championship title, and their backline was also breached in a recent Scottish League Cup tie when hosting Queen’s Park.

  • Falkirk have completed back-to-back promotions to return to the Scottish Premiership.

  • Dundee United finished 4th in last season’s Scottish Premiership.

  • Dundee United scored at least once in 15 of their 19 Scottish Premiership away games last season.

Falkirk will mark their return to the Scottish Premiership with a home game against Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.

Falkirk are 1.89 favourites with Dundee United 3.95 outsiders, and the draw has been priced up at 3.6.

🔵 Bairns Back in the Big Time

Falkirk secured a return back to the top-flight following a 15-year absence after winning the Scottish Championship title on the final day of last season. That triumph saw John McGlynn’s side seal back-to-back promotions after completing an invincible season in Scottish League One just 12 months ago. The Bairns boss has added some experience to his ranks with the signings of Scott Bain and Brian Graham but the majority of his existing squad is inexperienced at this level.

Falkirk warmed up for their return to the top-flight by taking top spot in Scottish League Cup Group A, collecting 11 points from a possible 12 to stamp their ticket to the knockout round.

🟠 Terrors Targeting Another Strong Season

After exceeding expectations with a 4th placed finish in last season’s Scottish Premiership, Dundee United will be aiming to carry the feel-good factor into the new campaign. The early signs are encouraging, with Jim Goodwin’s side claiming a 2-0 aggregate win over Una Strassen in Europa Conference League qualifying. United were worthy winners over the two legs, and manager Goodwin will have been particularly pleased to have come through the two ties without conceding.

Dundee United have had a large turnover of players over the summer, most notably losing influential striker Sam Dalby who scored 15 goals in last season’s Scottish Premiership.

📊 Falkirk v Dundee United H2H

Despite not being in the same division for several seasons, Falkirk and Dundee United have become familiar foes in recent times. The two teams were housed in the same Scottish League Cup group in seasons 23/24 and 24/25, with Dundee United winning the first encounter 1-0 while Falkirk gained revenge with a 2-0 success last term. Either side of those two meetings, the Bairns also claimed a 4-2 win over United in a Scottish Challenge Cup tie back in November 2023.
