France v Republic of Ireland
Watch live: Viaplay
Thursday night’s entertainment takes us to the Parc des Princes where France host the Republic of Ireland in Group B of Euro 2024 qualification. France have won all four of their games so far and lead the group with a +9 goal difference. Ireland are in third at the moment with three points but have only played three games. Last time the two played France won 1-0 in March with Benjamin Pavard grabbing the only goal of the game.
France have now won seven consecutive home games, or 8/10 of their last appearances in Paris. The hosts have also scored two or more goals in seven of these last ten games, keeping a clean sheet in five of them. With the gulf in quality between the two teams, this is not surprising.
Ireland are on a poor run of fixtures away from home. They have lost seven of their last ten on the road in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, and are without a win in four. Unsurprisingly France are the favourites, currently having the odds of 1.20 to win – meaning the bookies place them at roughly having an 83% chance of winning. There is, however, a strong value in the handicap goals market.
This, and many more selections, will be explored in this article. In fact, two levels of a France v Ireland Bet Builder have been hand-picked using the France v Ireland Cheat Sheet. You don't want to miss out.

France’s attacking threat could be too much for Ireland
France are the second best-ranked team in the world, boasting the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, Randal Kolo Muani, and of course Kylian Mbappe in the attack. These world-class players could have a field day Thursday evening, all being far quicker and of better technical ability than Ireland’s backline.
When the two teams played last, those four players mentioned combined for eight shots and seven fouls won.
France team news
France are expected to shape up in the same way as they did back in March, adopting a 4-3-3 formation. There is likely to be one change, however, with the recent injury of Ibrahima Konate in defence. However, Didier Deschamps have incredible strength in depth to call upon.
Ireland’s 18-year-old superstar unavailable
Evan Ferguson scored a hat-trick in the Premier League last weekend against Newcastle, but unfortunately for Stephen Kenny's men he has picked up a knee injury that means he'll miss the international games against France and Netherlands in this break. This pair of fixtures looked very challenging before the confirmation of the youngster's absence, but it will hand an opportunity for others to stake a claim for their country.
Ireland team news
Ireland’s defence is predicted to be identical to how they lined up against France in March, with no surprises. However, due to various injuries and suspensions, their midfield is likely to be different. Matt Doherty is currently suspended and may be replaced by Festy Ebosele.
Notably Seamus Coleman, who often captains Ireland, is unavailable for selection after not being called up by Stephen Kenny this time around. This represents a huge blow to Ireland, losing both a key defender and a leader with years of experience.
