The last of this year’s four quarter-final ties at the Grand Slam of Darts will see Gary Anderson go up against Gian van Veen on Saturday night.
Anderson claimed top honours in Group G before going on to beat Stephen Bunting 10-6 in the round of 16. As for van Veen, he put in a string of impressive performances to take top spot in Group H and he has since put in a ruthless display to dispatch Ryan Joyce 10-2.

Gian Van Veen has arguably been the most impressive player in the tournament to date, but he starts as the underdog in this match against the ‘Flying Scotsman’ – predicting the outcome of this match is not easy. One angle which appeals however is for 4 or more 100+ checkouts.
Anderson achieved this mark on his own in his previous match against Stephen Bunting and he managed to register one in each of his group matches which were short format matches and races to just five. The action expands to best of thirty one legs from this stage onwards and this should give ample opportunities for these ton plus checkouts to be landed.
Gian hasn’t been as proficient in numerical terms in this regard but has still managed to notch up four himself. His conversion rate however at these opportunities has been excellent and better than one in every four as he’s checked out four of his fifteen attempts, a 26.7% success rate.
This is similar to the rate to which Anderson has been converting them, 25.9%, as he’s managed to finish seven of his twenty-seven attempts. If the opportunities do arise, we should see these big out shots tot up quite nicely. In a match that could go all the way the 3.5 mark looks lenient.
