🥇 Jordan Rhodes to win the Golden Boot (Blackpool)
📈 Odds: 26.0
Jordan Rhodes spent virtually the whole of last season on loan at Blackpool and it is no surprise that turned into a permanent switch this summer.
The 34-year-old finished the campaign on 15 league goals; his best league scoring season since 2014/15. If it wasn’t for two separate injury spells lasting approximately one month each time then there is every chance he would have hit the 25-goal mark.
He was the main man at Bloomfield Road then, and the same is set to apply this time around. The veteran striker certainly hasn’t been signed to sit on the bench, bear in mind he netted his 15 league goals last season despite being restricted to 27 league starts. He has been a poacher all his career and rarely needs a second chance to find the back of the net.
Blackpool are a team that doesn’t lack creativity and that is proved by the fact they were ranked sixth in the league in open play xGF last season, so the frontman will get plenty of goal opportunities presented to him.
Unfortunately, he is at an age where injuries cannot be ruled out and he has had a scare or two in that regard in pre-season, but Neil Critchley will want him on the pitch at 100% to give them the best chance of being in the promotion picture. However, in Rhodes’ case, age is merely a number and last season proved it.
Also, the price on him rates decent value considering some of those at shorter odds have some questions to answer, whereas Rhodes, who counts Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday amongst his previous clubs, is proven experience at this level.
🏆 Jordan Rhodes to win the Golden Boot
🥇 Rhys Healey to win the Golden Boot (Huddersfield Town)
📈 Odds: 29.0
Huddersfield Town really disappointed last season and as such no player really stood out during their relegation campaign. They had three different permanent managers over the season, which in itself tells a story. It meant someone such as Rhys Healey, who signed in January, could never really get going.
Injuries also played a major part in that, but he has looked sharp in pre-season recently and has already helped himself to a few goals. He ended the season in fairly good form with a return of three goals in his last eight league appearances, bearing in mind this was in a struggling team and he only started two of those contests.
Healey has been well-travelled throughout his career, including a very productive three-year spell in France with Toulouse, but he is another who has proved he can net goals at League One level. It was his 11 goals in 19 League One appearances in 2019/20 with MK Dons that ultimately earned him the switch to France, where he fired in 34 goals across two seasons in Ligue 2.
As strange as it may sound, suffering relegation should actually suit someone such as Healey. The 29-year-old is looking to get his career back on track somewhat and certainly, this is a more realistic level than the Championship for him to do that.
Huddersfield are expected to be amongst the promotion challengers and new manager Michael Duff has added some telling new recruits in addition to keeping hold of many of last season’s squad, which on paper looks to be in the top few clubs based on quality.
Healey simply is a goalscorer and hoping he can remain as injury-free as possible then there is no reason why he shouldn’t be in the goals in 2024/25.
🥇 Rhys Healey to win the Golden Boot
🥇 Danilo Orsi-Dadomo to win the Golden Boot (Burton Albion)
📈 Odds: 41.0
Fresh investment, a new manager and a plethora of signings has offered optimism for Burton Albion supporters ahead of the new season. They are certainly having a go, and while they cannot necessarily be expected to mount a promotion bid, they could shock and excite along the way, no matter what they do.
One very eye-catching recruit was snapping up Danilo Orsi-Dadomo after his 23 goals helped Crawley Town win the League Two play-offs last season. This was the best goalscoring season of his career at the EFL level, so he now feels he belongs here.
The next step is to prove he can repeat these exploits in League One, but Burton’s number nine has joined a club on the up and he himself is clearly high on confidence. Only Macaulay Longstaff, Paul Mullin and Matt Smith fired more League Two goals last season than the 28-year-old and he deserves his shot at this level.
Newly hired Brewers boss Mark Robinson also intends to change the style of play at Pirelli Stadium having spent the last few seasons with the Chelsea Development Squad, and one obvious plan is to find a way of getting the ball to Orsi-Dadomo.
Not only is he a finisher but he is capable of scoring different types of goals, so finding him in the final third is one sure-fire way for Burton to find the back of the net this season. He rates as a handy outsider bet to be amongst the highest goalscorers in League One when you consider he netted over 20 last season, albeit at a lower level. Strikers are confident players and the player simply knows how to score goals.
He won’t have lost those habits over the summer and given he is in the form of his life he can be backed to do the same for Burton as he did for Crawley.
