Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur
Crystal Palace host Tottenham at Selhurst Park for this all London affair and I fancy the Eagles to take at least share of the spoils. The Eagles come into this off the back strong away victory at Bournemouth just a few days ago. Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze were the men on target in the first half and that secured a 2-0 victory on the road. Palace currently sit in mid-table and are in mixed form, however I fancy them to pounce on a Spurs side who are very shaky to me. Spurs were beaten at home by Aston Villa by 2 goals to nil on New Years Day and I see their frustrations continuing. Their Boxing Day performance at Brentford was also under par, only thanks to a 2nd half comeback did they manage to grab a point in that one.
So, Palace have been in reasonably good form at home this season, it’s now 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses in their last 7 in the league. Last time out they were humbled to a Fulham side who comfortably brushed them aside 3-0, although the two red cards for the Eagles of course played their part. As I previously mentioned the excellent win at Bournemouth on New Years Eve, this was the ideal bounce back win they needed. This selection is most definitely a hunch of mine but there’s every reason to believe it can be a winning one. Previous to the Fulham loss, Palace won 3 on the spin at home and this goes to show they can perform to a high standard. They possess numerous flair players in attack such as Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Jordan Ayew, depending on who Vieira decides to go with. Whoever is given the nod, I am expecting them to cause the Spurs defence several problems throughout. The pick of the bunch though, in my opinion, is Zaha. He’s consistently proving his worth in this side and has 6 goals to his name thus far. The explosive attacker also has 2 assists and can be the difference in this fixture. The atmosphere will no doubt be rocking as usual, the Holmesdale fanatics always have Selhurst rocking and they’ll make it another intimidating one. With Spurs’ form on the wane, I feel the home side can take advantage!
Tottenham have looked a shade of themselves since their return to Premier League action. Hence, my pick for this game! I believe slight pressure is building in the camp right now and they’re potentially without Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski again in attack. Harry Kane is set to lead the line for the away side, his goal scoring prowess is always something to be feared. The England captain has still been hitting the back of the net with regularity, despite the recent dip in his team’s form. He’s now up to 13 goals in total in the league, in 2nd place behind Erling Haaland. If Palace are able to nullify the Spurs star striker, there’s a huge chance they’ll be able to gain at least a draw. Their defensive record is extremely poor, Tottenham are leaking goals for fun. In their previous 7 PL games, it is averaging out at 2.14 GpG being conceded. Hugo Lloris made a huge error in their last match which will do his confidence absolutely no good at all! The defensive back line has looked extremely unsteady whoever has been in the XI. I find it hard to imagine a sudden change in fortunes in a very tough away fixture.
Now, having taken everything into account I’ve punted for Crystal Palace Double Chance. I feel they’ve every chance of securing at least a point against this Tottenham side on the slide!
