With their Scottish Premiership title hopes all but extinguished, Rangers play their final home fixture of the campaign when they take on struggling Dundee at Ibrox Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Gers’ trophy hopes suffered a crushing blow in Saturday’s Old Firm Derby when they were bested by rivals Celtic in a Glaswegian tussle of extra significance. That result left Rangers six points off their neighbours with just two matches left to contest.
Dundee meanwhile, are limping towards the finish line and having lost each of their last three Premiership fixtures, they look ill-equipped to upset the odds against Rangers for the first time since 2017.

⚔️ Rangers v Dundee Head-to-Head
Unsurprisingly, Rangers have been the dominant force in this fixture and the Glasgow giants have won eight of their last nine meetings with Dundee in league and cup since December 2018.
However, The Dee did buck the trend in the clubs’ most recent encounter on April 17th when they held Rangers to a 0-0 draw at The Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park, with keeper Jon McCracken’s fine performance between the sticks playing a crucial part for the hosts.
Rangers dominated 65.7% of the ball, lodged 17 attempts to Dundee’s seven and nine corners to their host’s two in that stalemate and they were left irked at their inability to beat The Dee for the third time in as many meetings this term.
When the clubs last met at Ibrox Stadium in December, Rangers eased to a 3-1 victory despite playing the entire second half with ten men in a heated battle that produced seven cards overall.
Tensions were similarly high when Rangers blitzed Dundee 5-0 at Dens Park in November with five cards brandished on that occasion. James Tavernier scored from the spot in that comfortable Rangers triumph, just as he did at Ibrox a couple of months later.
Dundee’s last success against Rangers came in a famous 1-0 triumph over the Gers in 2017, though we have to travel all the way back to 2001 to find The Dee’s last win over their more illustrious opponents at Ibrox Stadium.
📊 Rangers Form and Stats
Rangers’ 2-1 defeat to Celtic on Saturday was their seventh loss of the Premiership campaign, and they haven’t been beaten as often in one season since losing ten times in 2017/18.
That Old Firm Derby defeat all but confirmed a third second-place finish on the spin for Rangers, however, while that loss at Celtic Park felt like the final nail in the coffin, The Gers’ form has actually been patchy for a few months.
Since March 1st, Rangers have managed to win only five times in 12 attempts in all competitions, while points have been dropped in five of their last eight assignments in the Premiership.
While The Gers still hold the division’s best defensive record (27), standards at the back have been slipping and they conceded 1.625 goals per game across their last eight league matches compared to the 1.26 they conceded per contest before that.
The last seven Premiership fixtures involving Rangers at Ibrox have returned just one clean sheet with both teams scoring on six separate occasions during that run, so Dundee might fancy their chances of netting a consolation at The Gers for the second time this term.
James Tavernier is Rangers’ leading marksman this season on 17 goals just ahead of Cyriel Dessers (15), though the defender plundered 12 of those efforts from the penalty spot. Rangers (15) have been awarded more penalties than any other Premiership outfit this term.
📊 Dundee Form and Stats
Promoted from the second tier last year, Dundee’s qualification for the Premiership’s Championship Phase in 2023/24 has been heralded as a superb achievement for Head Coach Tony Docherty and his team.
The Dee are likely to finish in 6th (last) spot in the Championship Group, however, their achievements won’t have been diminished despite a poor flurry of results at the climax and the club is on course to land its best league position since 2015.
Dundee conceded three goals in each of their last two tests against St. Mirren (1-3) and Hearts (0-3), though they have maintained a competitive level in the vast majority of their fixtures in 2023/24, and only the Jambos, Celtic and Rangers have scored more goals than Docherty’s side (46).
Interestingly, Dundee have posted the worst xGA figure in the entire 12-club Premiership division this season (61.92) and only Ross County (528) have faced more shots (498).
Keepers Jon McCracken and Trevor Carson, who have been sharing duties, have both been overworked making 3.40 and 3.00 saves per 90 respectively over the course of the campaign.
Dundee’s only win in their last seven Premiership away tests came in a 2-1 victory at St Johnstone on March 30th. Again, keeper McCracken was called into action three times on the occasion and the 23-year-old is likely to be just as busy at Ibrox Stadium on Tuesday evening.
💰 Rangers v Dundee Best Bets
With Rangers priced as narrowly as 1.13 to win ahead of Tuesday’s tussle, the match result markets hold little interest this week, though both teams to score is available at even money (2.0) and The Gers’ recent defensive issues could make that a worthy avenue to explore.
Rangers, who have kept only one clean sheet in seven games at Ibrox, conceded a consolation goal when they last hosted Dundee in December and a similar outcome looks possible in Tuesday’s rematch.
Philippe Clement’s Gers also hold plenty of appeal in the over 2.5 team goals market at 1.62. Rangers’ players will be keen to muster an instant response following their derby day defeat, while their meeting with Dundee will also be their final home fixture of the campaign and the Glaswegians will be determined to sign off in style. Rangers put three goals past Dundee when the teams last met at Ibrox in December and The Gers have scored three or more times in seven of their last nine Premiership home games overall.
