Los Angeles FC v Austin FC
🏟
Sunday 30th October – 7:00PM KO
It is the Conference finals in the MLS postseason on Sunday evening and up first is the Western Conference where the two best teams in the regular season will meet when Los Angeles FC play host to Austin FC.
These two weren’t just first and second in the regular season but they were the two best teams to watch and if they live up to that billing here we should be in for a cracking contest.
I am certainly expecting goals to come along in this match. I say that because Los Angeles FC have some scary good attackers while Austin FC are certainly not lacking in that department either.
Austin FC actually won both regular season meetings against Los Angeles FC and while they don’t really count for a whole lot right now, the latest one of those games was 4-1 so they’ll be heading into this match fully believing it will be them going to the MLS Cup final next week.
Los Angeles looked very impressive in defeating their rivals LA Galaxy last week though and they look like a team who under the attacking qualities of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vela among others look set to host MLS Cup final next weekend.
They need to win here in order to do that though but I’m not convinced this will be one way traffic by any means. Austin match up well to LAFC and they have goals oozing through their team. I think this one has over 2.5 goals before we see who represents the West in the big dance next week.

Philadelphia Union v New York City FC
🏟
Monday 31st October – 12:00AM KO
The second match of a sizzling hot Sunday in the MLS actually takes us into the very early hours of Monday morning as Philadelphia Union play host to the current champions New York City FC with the winner going to the MLS Cup final.
Both these two teams came through good semi-finals last week to set up this Conference final and we should be in for a really competitive contest.
These two boast the two keepers with the most clean sheets in MLS this season which would probably suggest we are going to get a tight game here. I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with that but we’ve seen throughout the playoffs since they have been down to one leg knockouts that it only takes an early goal to send these games crazy.
I actually think the title defence of New York City FC comes to a close here. They had a good win over CF Montreal last week but were extremely fortunate to come through when you consider that they lost the xG battle by a whopping 3.62 to 1.79 in a 3-1 win for NYCFC.
I don’t think Philadelphia Union will pass up those sorts of chances in this match. They have got their home playoff win when they took care of FC Cincinnati in the semi-final and should be even more assured about their play in this match.
The Union did the double over NYCFC in the regular season and have been absolute machines at Subaru Park this season. I expect it to be them representing the East in the MLS Cup final next week.
