Schaffhausen v Stade Lausanne-Ouchy (Challenge League)
🏟
Tuesday 1st March – 6:30PM KO
Swiss Football returns on Tuesday evening and we kick things off at FC Schaffhausen who continued their impressive season on Friday evening as they edged out promotion rivals Winterthur at the WeFox Arena by a narrow 3-2 scoreline. The result keeps Schaffhausen within touching distance of their second-placed rivals and also continues their excellent form at their home stadium too. They remain undefeated at the venue this season and the victory over Winti made it five in a row too. They now have the chance to leapfrog Vaduz and move into third with the visit of Lausanne-Ouchy.
SLO continue to chip away at those above them this season and still have hope of entering the promotion play-off race after just one defeat in their last five matches. Their 2-0 victory over Vaduz last time out lifted them above Neuchatel Xamax into fifth and they can pull level on points with Schaffhausen above them if they can gain victory on Tuesday. There is much contrasting form for SLO though when it comes to home and away matches, they have lost only one of their last seven games at the Pontaise but have also only won one of their last seven games away from home.
This will be a tight match between two sides jostling in the top half. I think that Schaffhausen have enough to win this match and keep up their promotion charge, but SLO have a habit of eeking out draws despite their poor form on their travels. I’d back Schaffhausen DNB to cover yourself here.

FC Thun v Neuchatel Xamax (Challenge League)
🏟
Tuesday 1st March – 6:30PM KO
It has been a dismal few weeks for FC Thun in the Challenge League as their form has entered a sharp decline and all but extinguished their hopes of ending their two-year stay in the second-tier. Their 2-2 draw at Yverdon-Sport ended a run of three successive defeats for the club and they are now eleven points adrift of the promotion play-off spot for the visit of Neuchatel Xamax to the Stockhorn Arena.
Neuchatel Xamax benefitted, as almost everyone else seems to recently, from playing SC Kriens. They were 2-1 winners to extend their unbeaten run to five matches in the league and will be in a confident mood as they look to shake FC Thun off their tail while also breaking into the top half of the table for the first time since early December. However, Xamax do have an awful recent record against Thun and have also only won one, against (you guessed it) SC Kriens, of their last ten away matches.
This should be another tight game. Xamax are playing well but Thun are a better side at the Stockhorn and will be glad that they aren’t facing two of the top three sides in the league or Yverdon and Schaffhausen away from home, the two sides with the best home record in the league. Xamax will make this difficult and even managed a draw at league leaders Aarau a few weeks ago, but Thun shouldn’t lose this.

FC Wil v SC Kriens (Challenge League)
🏟
Tuesday 1st March – 7:15PM KO
It seems to be a common theme for most sides in the Challenge League that a match against SC Kriens comes along just when they need a pick-me-up, and it is the case again on Tuesday evening as struggling FC Wil take on the league’s bottom team at the IGP Arena.
Wil were edged out by a 2-1 scoreline on Friday away to Aarau but their spirited performance will lift the mood during this patchy run of just one win in seven matches. Despite their position down in ninth, the prroblem for Wil isn’t in the attacking areas of the pitch, they rank joint-second for most goals, but are also second for most goals conceded. In comparison to Kriens, who have scored the fewest goals and conceded ten goals more than their opponents.
The 2-1 defeat at Xamax made it eleven defeats in a row last time out for SC Kriens. They are heading for one of the worst Challenge League seasons in history and don’t even look like a side capable of picking up a single point in what remains of the campaign. They can’t score many, they can’t defend and are miles behind even ninth place, a mammoth twenty-two points to be exact.
The home side aren’t in the best of form, but they score plenty of goals and while they concede many too, Kriens don’t have the players to hurt them enough. Wil were comfortable winners in both meetings to date and I expect them to be winners again at the end of play here.

Servette v Young Boys (Super League)
🏟
Tuesday 1st March – 7:30PM KO
It has been quite the comedown for Young Boys this season after romping to four successive titles in a row and generally dominating everyone in Switzerland on the way. They remain ten points behind surprising leaders FC Zurich after their 3-1 victory over FC Sion at the Wankdorf on Sunday and with thirteen matches to play, including home and away fixtures with FCZ, there will be a quiet belief that they can make up the points required to become only the second side alongside FC Basel to have won five league titles in a row.
YB were let off the hook in the previous round when their draw at Grasshoppers ended up going unpunished and the Bernese side were reluctant to give FCZ any chance of extending their lead at the top in that win over Sion. They led early, and although they conceded yet again, they responded quickly to ensure they would win the three points. Inconsistency has plagued YB this season and they’ll be eager to string two wins together for the first time in four games when they visit Geneva on Tuesday.
Servette were the last side to beat YB in the league but much has changed since that night in December. The form for Alain Geiger’s men simply hasn’t been good enough since the winter break with only one win, against bottom club Lausanne, in their last five and they were on the receiving end of defeat on Sunday at Lugano.
It is true though that SFC are much better at home than on the road and are unbeaten in their last four. YB have the quality to put anyone to the sword, but they simply can’t be trusted and leak too many goals. Over 2.5 goals has landed in five of the last seven home matches for SFC and six of the last eight for YB and I expect the same here.
