Deontay Wilder v Derek Chisora Preview
Deontay Wilder returns to the ring looking a far cry from his once dominant status as WBC champion. It's hard to even imagine a scenario where he and Derek Chisora were considered on the same level, yet here we are. Wilder has lost four of his last six bouts, and looks a different man from what was once considered the hardest puncher in the world of boxing.
The Tyson Fury trilogy seems to have taken its toll on Wilder, who seems to have lost the ability to unleash his devastating right hand. He did stop Robert Helenius in the first back in 2022, but this is a small victory in what has been a pretty miserable run.
He cut a diminished figure in his losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, visibly stripped of the belief and instinct needed to produce the game-changing knockout blow that repeatedly rescued him when trailing on the scorecards throughout his career.
Derek Chisora, however, has defied the odds. Many predicted he would retire following his 2022 loss to Tyson Fury, but has since recorded three consecutive wins to throw him into world title conversations. He has insisted this will be his final fight, and his recent form would suggest that 'Del Boy' will want to finish his career on his own terms.

Masternak has been operating at the elite level for over a decade now and was ahead on the cards when bidding for Chris Billam Smith’s WBO world title in 2023, until a rib injury caused him to retire from the bout.
Although Masternak was less impressive against Australia’s Floyd Masson the following year, and whilst he has since reclaimed the European title, the 38-year-old’s best days seem to be behind him.
I believe that Riley has got Masternak at the right time here and that he will steer clear on the cards during the second half of the bout, with his youth and exuberance helping him to get his hands on the EBU European Cruiserweight title via decision.
Tip 3: Matty Harris to Win (v Franklin Ignatius) @ 1.25
In a well-matched heavyweight affair, Matty Harris and Franklin Ignatius go toe-to-toe in an intriguing domestic dust-up, where the victor will move closer towards a shot at the British title.
In 2023, Ignatius lost out to reigning British champion Jeamie TKV, in the solitary defeat of his career to date, whilst Harris suffered his sole blemish in a shock defeat to Ukrainian journeyman Kostiantyn Dovbyshchenko that same year.
Since then, ‘Magic’ Matty Harris has displayed his punch power, and if sparring stories are to be believed, he hits like a truck, but this will be his first true test since that surprise defeat, in what is a first scheduled eight-rounder of his career.
However, Matty Harris’ power should be too much for Ignatius, who is deemed by many to be a non-puncher. This should be the performance that sees Matty Harris recognised as a serious domestic contender, proving the doubters wrong after the defeat that birthed them.
Tip 4: Fight to Go the Distance (Denzel Bentley v Endry Saavedr) @ 1.53
In a weak middleweight scene, there is every chance that the victor of this WBO Interim middleweight title clash could be elevated to full middleweight world champion in the near future, with Janibek Alimkhanuly’s reign expected to soon end.
Here, two game 160-lbers meet in what looks to be the fight of the night, each boasting a knockout percentage of over 80%. Although both men possess the power and aggression to end the bout early, the standout pick here is for the fight to go the distance.
Bentley lasted the full 12-round distance against the superior Alimkhanuly when challenging for the title, whilst Mexican-based Venezuelan Saavedra has never been stopped and has shown similar guts to Bentley in previous fights.
Expect these two warriors to provide a gruelling battle, but the judges will ultimately determine the new WBO Interim champion, with ‘El Chino’ well capable of pulling off the win on away turf.
