Colombia had very few issues taking all three points against Uzbekistan in round one, but they did still commit 14 fouls, and Gustavo Puerta accounted for two of those. The South American side can be very aggressive in their challenges, and Puerta exemplifies that approach. The 22-year-old initially broke through to the national team setup after Colombia’s qualifying matches - he had an average of 3.79 fouls per 90 operating in a defensive midfield position, picking up two yellow cards in six appearances. Bear in mind, he only started three of those games, and they were all friendlies.
DR Congo took a point from Portugal in round one, which was a shock result, and they really showed just how effective they can be on the counter. DR Congo were quick to turn defence into attack, and it wouldn’t be a surprise for Puerta to be forced into a cynical challenge here.
