We are set for a pulsating clash at the San Siro on Sunday evening as two teams chasing Champions League football do battle. AC Milan have generally been in good form and recently progressed in the Europa League v Rennes. Atalanta meanwhile, have finally found some consistency and are in red hot form having won 8 of their last 10 Serie A fixtures, including five consecutive victories. It’s third v fourth and this is a mouth-watering clash with tonnes of betting potential.
AC Milan have a very strong home record this season and have won nine out of 12 fixtures in front of their own fans in Serie A. On the road, Atalanta have been more mixed but did claim an impressive 4-1 victory at Genoa in their most recent away game. Milan are on a run of 10 out of 11 over 2.5 goals games in all competitions whilst Atalanta have been smoking hot in attack, netting 17 goals in their last five fixtures. Everything looks set for an end-to-end-type shootout.

🏆 Match stats: An exciting game in-store
As mentioned above, both teams have been involved in a lot of high-scoring matches recently. Milan have shown some really poor defensive frailties since the start of 2024 and only kept clean sheets in three out of 11 games. Monza fired four times past them last weekend and Rennes feasted on Thursday night.
Facing an Atalanta offence which is cooking nicely makes you worry for the Milan backline. They have more than enough firepower themselves with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic.
Over 1.5 goals can be backed at 1.25 which looks like a safe bet builder option. For those after something juicier, over 2.5 can be grabbed at 1.75.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 1.5 goals @ 1.25
⚽ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.75
🎯 Shooting stats: De Ketelaere to prove a point to Milan
Olivier Giroud is a reliable and experienced talisman for AC Milan and should be on penalties and even some free kicks. He averages 1.11 shots on target per match and crucially his accuracy ratio is well over 45%. He doesn’t tend to waste too many opportunities. Odds of 1.29 on the Frenchman to have one or more shots on target look appealing.
Charles De Ketelaere had a miserable season at AC Milan last term and is now on loan with Atalanta. He will be allowed to play v his parent club and in the reverse fixture he caught the eye with a strong performance and an assist. There’s no doubt that the Belgian playmaker will want to prove a point and could be extra fired up. He averages over one shot on target per game and looks big at 1.62 to test the keeper again.
Predictions:
⚽ Olivier Giroud to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.29
⚽ Charles De Ketelaere to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.62
🛑 Fouls stats: Hernandez value to mistime a challenge
One player who will definitely be cynical if needed is AC Milan left back Theo Hernandez. He leads them for cards this season and can be backed as big as 1.44 to commit one or more fouls. This is extremely generous when you consider the fact he averages 1.23 fouls per match. He is not a serial fouler but will not hesitate to take one for his team if required.
On the Atalanta side, Marten de Roon stands out as safe bet builder material just to commit one or more fouls. He’s going to be up against Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tejjani Reijnders and average 1.45 fouls per match. He’s picked up several cards this season and it’s really difficult to imagine him having a clean game. He will be right in the heart of the action in midfield and should get stuck in.
Predictions:
⚽ Theo Hernandez to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.44
⚽ Marten de Roon to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.25
🟨 Cards stats: Feisty one this is
Both sides average over two cards per game, with AC Milan especially dirty (2.56). There are several players who are elusive foul magnets on show, in addition to individuals who will get stuck in.
This is third v fourth and it should be a high-octane, pulsating clash. With plenty on the line the referee could end up taking several names in his book. Serie A have roped in high profile official Daniele Orsato for this clash and he averages 5.09 cards per game this season.
Over 3.5 cards can be backed at 1.33 which looks a relatively secure bet builder piece.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 3.5 cards @ 1.33
