Premier League Card Betting Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 19th April

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth

14:00

Marc Guehi to be Shown a Card 🔄

After an extremely promising run, the wheels have seemingly fallen off for Crystal Palace in the last week, losing 5-2 to Man City having been 2-0 up in the first half, before collapsing to a 5-0 defeat away to Newcastle. There’s no shame in losing to either of those two teams, but the shakiness of their defence is very concerning ahead of their FA Cup semi-final with Aston Villa.

It may be that the semi-final, combined with having no prospect of European football via league placings has seen the Eagles take their eye off the ball, which would be understandable. Their opponents, by contrast, know that they need a big finish to the season to have any chance to secure European football for the first time.

This game looks likely to be the most foul-heavy of the 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League, so the cards could flow, and our top choice to receive one is Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. The England international has been booked in three of his last six league starts, including receiving two bookings at home against Brighton.

Guehi has fouled in six straight Premier League games coming into this match, including multiple fouls in three of those six. He received a card in all three of the games in which he fouled more than once. He was also booked in the reverse fixture at the Vitality Stadium back on Boxing Day.

Guehi will be up against Bournemouth striker Evanilson, who wins 1.96 fouls per 90 in the Premier League, and Antoine Semenyo, who wins 1.01. Bournemouth’s last three league games have also seen a left-sided defender carded twice. With Tyrick Mitchell encouraged to bomb forward throughout the game, Guehi will be asked to cover those spaces, further increasing his risk of picking up a card.

West Ham v Southampton

14:00

Jan Bednarek to be Shown a Card 🔄

With nothing to lose, and no permanent manager, Southampton can throw everything into getting the win that will take them above Derby’s infamous 11-point tally, and avoid becoming the worst side to ever grace the Premier League, which should hopefully open this game up more and make fouls more likely.

Bednarek has been carded in three of his last five Premier League starts. The Poland international has been carded 0.26 times per 90 this season, the third-most of any Southampton player, an impressive feat in a squad which has seen the second-most cards of any side in the league. He also comes into this game having fouled in 15 straight Premier League games for Southampton, which only adds to his appeal to be booked here.

As the central centre-back in Saints’ back three, he will be up against West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, who win 2.25 and 1.64 fouls per 90 respectively. Kudus has won two or more fouls in seven of his last eight Premier League starts, whilst Bowen had won two or more fouls in eight of his last nine. Bednarek looks likely to make a few fouls here, which will hopefully lead to a card.
