Premier League Card Betting Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 10th May

Southampton v Man City

14:00

Flynn Downes to be Shown a Card

Only three players have averaged more yellow cards per 90 than Flynn Downes whilst also playing over 1,200 Premier League minutes this season. The 26-year-old has seen 0.48 bookings per game in the league in 2024/25, with only Manuel Ugarte, Will Hughes, and Sasa Lukic averaging more.

Downes is one of only 14 players to pick up 10 or more bookings in the Premier League, and only Ugarte has achieved 10 cards whilst playing fewer minutes than the Southampton man. On Saturday he will face off against a resurgent Man City side, and we think there is every chance Downes picks up another booking here.

He has been booked in five of his last 11 Premier League starts for Southampton, also picking up a card in 17 minutes off the bench against Man United in the middle of this run. Of these six cards, just one has been for dissent, with all the rest coming from fouls.

Three of the six were for trips whilst breaking up a counter-attack, something that could easily come into play here, with City’s revamped lineup seeing them utilise quick breaks and runners from midfield much more frequently than they did earlier in the season.

Downes has averaged 2.20 fouls per 90 in the league this season, and has fouled in 15 of his last 16 Premier League starts, committing multiple fouls in nine of these. Of those nine games in which Downes committed two or more fouls, he was booked in five, so multiple fouls here would suggest another card is likely.

He will be up against Man City’s fluid midfield, which is likely to feature Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Mateo Kovacic, who win 0.93, 0.92, and 1.01 fouls per 90 in the Premier League respectively. With City set to heavily dominate possession, Downes will be asked to do a lot of running, and a couple of tired challenges could be all we need to land this bet.

Wolves v Brighton

14:00

Andre to be Shown a Card

The clash between Wolves and Brighton looks ripe for cards on Saturday afternoon, and the pick of the bunch has to be Wolves’ central midfielder, Andre.

The Brazil international comes into this clash having picked up seven bookings this season. Those seven cards see him behind only midfield partner Joao Gomes’ 10 bookings for the Black Country club in the Premier League in 2024/25.

He has committed 1.35 fouls per 90 in the Premier League this season, and has fouled in seven of his last nine Premier League games, only failing to do so in a dominant 3-0 win over Leicester, and the 1-0 defeat at Man City.

Of his last five games in which he committed a foul, he has fouled twice or more in four. Each of the last three games in which the 21-year-old fouled twice or more have also seen him carded. Andre has also been carded three times this season for dissent, and all three came in games that Wolves either won by a single goal or finished as a draw. This game is likely to remain close too, making another card for dissent more than possible here.

He will be up against Brighton’s Matt O’Riley and Carlos Baleba here, who win 1.26 and 1.64 fouls per 90 in the Premier League this season. Brighton have also drawn the third-most cards of any Premier League side this season, with their opponents receiving 2.54 cards per game on average.
