I’m a Mansfield Town season ticket holder who runs the @MTFCMusings X account. I have appeared across many fan podcasts previewing Mansfield Town games, as well as Gab Suttons EFL Debate.

I've found three high-value players to be carded picks from this Saturday's Republic of Ireland v Hungary clash. Back all three as a high-odds treble.

Saturday's 45/1 World Cup Qualifying Card Betting Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 6th September

Republic of Ireland v Hungary

World Cup Qualifiers

19:45

Jason Knight to be Shown a Card @ 3.10

The Bristol City midfielder featured in every single game for the Robins last season, acting as the heartbeat of a team which reached the play-offs unexpectedly. He has also become a key player for his county, having won 39 caps since making his debut back in 2020.

During the Republic of Ireland’s recent Nations League campaign and subsequent qualification final games against Bulgaria, Knight made six starts and was carded on four occasions. This is perhaps due to the talent deficit Ireland face at international level.

While Hungary are not known as a footballing superpower, they do have Liverpool star Dominic Szoboszlai operating in his favoured attacking midfield position, which will bring him in close proximity to Knight, who may wish to leave one on Hungary’s talisman.

Marton Dardai to be Shown a Card @ 3.75

Left footed defender Marton Dardai plays his club football for Hertha BSC in 2. Bundesliga, and the age of 23 already has 15 caps for his country.

In 30 appearances for his club last season, Dardai was shown 13 yellow cards and one red, at a rate of 0.51 per 90, which translates to a card every other full game. He was booked twice whilst playing for Hungary in the Nations League, once during the group stage against the Netherlands, and the other in the qualification final against Turkey.

Ireland have a fair few diminutive, tricky players in the likes of Sammie Szmodics, Cheo Ogbene and Mikey Johnston, who could all tempt Dardai into a couple of fouls.

Willi Orban to be Shown a Card @ 4.00

Willi Orban is a stalwart of RB Leipzig, having featured in over 350 games for the German club since 2015. The same can be said at national team, with Orban having also surpassed the 50 cap mark.

The commanding defender has been carded twice for Hungary in the last year, once against the Netherlands, and the other against Turkey. In 25 league appearances for his club, he was shown six cards at a rate of 0.24 per 90.

I think that Republic of Ireland will want to be on the front foot at home against Hungary, and therefore the visitors could have plenty of defending to do in a partisan atmosphere, which could say Orban’s name in the referee’s book. He looks value at odds of 4.00.
