Saturday’s 13/1 Premier League Card Betting Tips
Both of today’s selections come from the game at Portman Road, with the underlying data suggesting that the rest of the 3pm kick-offs are poor choices for card bets. There are plenty of options in this one however, but the pick of the bunch is surely Man City loanee Kalvin Phillips.
Aside from Axel Tuanzebe, the former England international has averaged the most cards per 90 in the Premier League for Ipswich this season, with 0.40. Phillips has been shown five bookings in 13 Premier League starts this season, a run which includes two of his last three league starts for the Tractor Boys. He is also averaging 2.18 fouls per 90 in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old midfielder has fouled twice or more in nine of his 13 league starts this season, which includes eight fouls in his last four starts at Portman Road. He faces a tough challenge against a Nottingham Forest side buoyed by last weekend’s 1-0 win over Man City.
Phillips will be up against Morgan Gibbs-White, who wins 1.41 fouls per 90 in the Premier League, and Elliot Anderson, who wins 2.03, 2nd only to Ryan Yates, who may also feature here.
Nottingham Forest rank 2nd for cards handed out to their opponents in away games at 2.64 cards per game this season, so we would expect Ipswich to pick up at least a couple here, and Phillips looks like the best option.
Forest not only draw their opponents into picking up plenty of cards when playing on the road, they also tally plenty themselves, with their 2.86 cards per game the 4th-highest average of any side in the Premier League.
The midfield battle here is full of scrappy, ball-winning players who love to get stuck into duels, so it makes sense to look here for a player to be carded. Our pick is Elliot Anderson, who has received 0.29 cards per 90 in the Premier League for the visitors, the 3rd-highest of any Nottingham Forest player this season.
Anderson commits 1.48 fouls per 90 in the league, the 3rd-most amongst regular starters for Forest, and comes into this game having fouled at least once in 10 of his last 11 Forest appearances, two of which were off the bench.
He has been carded in two of his last four games, one came as a sub against Ipswich in their FA Cup 5th Round clash two weeks ago. Anderson has also now been shown a yellow card in two of his last four Premier League starts away from home.
In 70 minutes against Ipswich in the Premier League earlier this season, Anderson fouled once and was fouled four times, so we would expect the 22-year-old to be involved in plenty of duels again here.
