Fuelled by a passion for sport and a sharp instinct for uncovering patterns in data, beating the bookies became the perfect outlet for my competitive streak. Now I take pleasure in sharing my finds with ABC punters. I enjoy finding niche angles and betting value in a range of markets and leagues, my favourite being in Serie A.

To celebrate the full return of European football, I’ve picked out selections from the Serie A, La Liga and Premier League for this week's Corner Acca, which has been priced at 10/1 - a tenner returns just under £120 if all four selections land.

If you're following my Corner Acca, we've compiled the Best Bookmakers for Accumulators.

Sunday's 10/1 Corners Accumulator

Fixtures for: Sunday 31st August

Liverpool v Arsenal

Premier League

16:30

Under 4.5 Liverpool Corners

The biggest-priced pick in this week’s acca comes from Anfield, where there looks to be real value in backing Liverpool to win under five corners against Arsenal.

The Gunners have started the season just as they left off last year, restricting Man United to three corners and Leeds to two. This represents an improvement on last campaign’s numbers, which were already the league’s best, conceding 3.11 on average.

Although it doesn’t really need stating, Liverpool will offer a sterner test; however, in recent years, this threat hasn’t translated into corners. Across their last five meetings with Arsenal, Liverpool have averaged no more than 3.2 per game, not once managing over four.

Although they did take the three points, a shaky performance at St James’ Park last time round yielded just the one corner for Arne Slott’s men, adding further support for the argument that these long odds may not be entirely justified.

Torino v Fiorentina

Serie A

17:30

Under 4.5 Fiorentina Corners

Fiorentina look to have been priced very generously to win fewer than five corners as they travel to Torino on Sunday.

La Viola were reliable in the unders market last season, with their matches producing the fewest corners of any team in Serie A, and Fiorentina themselves ranking 3rd from bottom with a rate of just 3.89 per 90. When on the road, they brought this selection home in 84% of their matches, which is pretty astounding given the implied probability on offer here of 59%. They’ve started this season in a similar fashion, winning just two against Cagliari.

Torino’s stats are also pretty encouraging, particularly at home, where they conceded an average of four corners per match. They prevented their opponents from surpassing the four threshold in 58% of their games at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. To kick off their campaign, Torino faced off with Inter at the San Siro. The Nerazzurri managed six on that occasion, which, while impressive, fell below their home average of 7.0 from the previous season.

Espanyol v Osasuna

La Liga

18:30

Under 4.5 Osasuna Corners

It’s been a positive start to the season for a much-improved Espanyol, who’ve picked up four points from their opening two games. More relevant to us, however, is their corner preventative record, which has seen them concede just 8, despite tricky matches against Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad, who, between them, averaged 5.3 per match last season.

Osasuna, on the other hand, have posed little threat in this domain so far. They’ve accumulated only three corners across their two matches, with all three coming against a Valencia side that went down to 10 men in the 22nd minute. Looking back, Los Rojillos managed 5+ corners in just 32% of their away games last season, and early signs suggest they’re no better equipped to improve on that this year.

Inter v Udinese

Serie A

19:45

Over 2.5 Udinese Corners

Although you wouldn’t find me siding with Udinese in the corner match bet market, they do look pretty good value to win at least three against Inter.

The Nerazzurri put in an excellent opening display as they thumped Torino 5-0 at home; however, they did still concede five corners in Chiuvu’s debut match as Inter coach. Udinese, meanwhile, racked up five corners themselves in their clash with Verona.

Last season, Inter conceded at a rate of 3.7 per match, with their opponents managing over 2.5 in 61% of those games (57% at the San Siro). Udinese surpassed the mark in 76% of their’s - a figure that remained relatively constant regardless of whether they were at home or away, and implying some decent value.
