Fuelled by a passion for sport and a sharp instinct for uncovering patterns in data, beating the bookies became the perfect outlet for my competitive streak. Now I take pleasure in sharing my finds with ABC punters. I enjoy finding niche angles and betting value in a range of markets and leagues, my favourite being in Serie A.

To celebrate the full return of European football, I’ve picked out a selection from each of the top four leagues for this week's Corner Acca, which has been priced at 7/1 - a tenner returns just over £80 if all four selections land.

If you're following my Corner Acca, we've compiled the Best Bookmakers for Accumulators.

Sunday's 7/1 Corners Accumulator

Fixtures for: Sunday 24th August

Everton v Brighton

Premier League

14:00

Brighton Corner Match Bet

The Seagulls averaged 4.95 corners per game last season, comfortably exceeding Everton’s rate of 4.05 per match. They’re unlikely to be phased by the £750m Hill Dickinson Stadium; in fact, Brighton’s corner record on the road was 0.33 per game, superior to that at the Amex.

They also conceded fewer than the Toffees, allowing their opponents an average of 4.79, compared to the 6.03 Everton were shipping.

In their campaign opener, Brighton managed 1 corner more than Fulham; meanwhile, Everton won 5 fewer than newly-promoted Leeds.

Moreover, across the last five head-to-head meetings between these sides, the corner scoreline reads 43-9 in Brighton’s favour, with Sunday’s hosts having totalled just 2 across both legs last season.

Borussia Mgladbach v Hamburger SV

Bundesliga

16:30

Mgladbach Corner Match Bet

Heading east into Germany, a meeting between Borussia Monchengladbach and the newly promoted Hamburger SV offers a similarly neat angle.

The visitors weren’t overly impressive in the market last season, despite playing in Germany’s second tier. They averaged 5.12 corners per game, ranking 9th out of the 18 teams in that respect. At the other end, Hamburger conceded at a higher rate of 5.35 per 90, with only 4 teams shipping more.

Borussia Monchengladbach averaged 4.65 corners per game, rising to 4.94 at home. They did concede at a slightly higher rate of 5.29 per game, but playing at home, against significantly weaker opposition, I don’t expect that to be a problem on Sunday.

Villarreal v Girona

La Liga

18:30

Over 3.5 Girona Corners

Moving on to Spain, Girona have been well-priced to win four or more corners as they travel to Villarreal.

I’ve opted not to read too much into their season openers, given that both of their matches involved a first-half red card, which undoubtedly affected the full-time corner count; however, perhaps the bookies took a different view, explaining the long odds.

Girona averaged 4.78 corners per game last season, exceeding the 3.5 threshold in 76% of their matches - well above the implied probability of 56% on offer here.

Villarreal conceded an average of 4.74 per game, with that record remaining identical between their home and away clashes. This line landed in 68% of their league fixtures, including both clashes with Girona, despite the Yellow Submarine taking four points from those encounters.

This is typical of Girona, who have been remarkably consistent in this matchup, winning exactly five corners in each of their last four meetings with Villarreal.

Juventus v Parma

Serie A

19:45

Juventus Corner Match Bet

Finally, we find ourselves in Italy, where backing Juventus in a corner match bet against Parma looks like an excellent shout.

Juventus were reliable in the corner market last season, particularly at the Allianz, where they averaged 5.84 corners per match. Parma’s inferior rate of 4.42 shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to this selection, although most of the value stems from their defensive record.

The Gialloblu conceded an average of 5.87 corners per game - the most of any side in Serie A, with their away record being particularly damning at 6.37. Given that when at home, the Bianconeri conceded at a rate of just 3.58, this selection seems pretty airtight.
