⚔️ Gameweek 28 Review – 52 Points (52 Average)
Bang average. In a small scoring GW, average wasn’t a bad return. Honestly, Salah (30pts) basically scored the majority of my team’s points with only the solid Milenkovic (6pts) registering any other assistance. At least I got the captaincy 50/50 correct, it could have been a disaster otherwise. Konsa (7pts) on the bench but with triple Brentford I expected them to score and Konsa to concede which didn’t happen. Isak and Bowen both with 2 points were a let down on Monday night football but, onwards we march!

✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 29
🇵🇹 Bruno Fernandes – Man United (£8.4m, 13.4%)
Finally, his form is back. 29 points in his last 3 fixtures, including 7 bonus points, includes his selection back into our conversations again. Though Man United can’t yet be trusted that they have fully turned the form corner, Bruno is the main man, involved in what seems like every single attacking return. 2 goals and 2 assists in the last 3 reinforce this. Up next is Leicester, where I see Bruno continuing his hot streak against a team that is devoid of many assets including a viable defence and attack.
No goal in the last 4 games and no clean sheet since October 2024… A staggering 25 games ago. Bruno has only just achieved double figures recently, but this could be the game that sees him tally a huge 15-20 points and he is one of the few players capable of that. In a blank GW in which many of the top assets are blank, Bruno is close to a must own and there is even an argument to captain him. Every time a Man United goal pings up on my phone I expect to see his name, so it’ll be a tough watch if you don’t own him.
🇳🇱 Justin Kluivert – Bournemouth (£6.2m, 32.9%)
Not as explosive currently as he has been this season, but still ticking over with points. A few injuries for the Cherries hasn’t helped, but now with Evanilson back as the target man up top, Kluivert can play his natural position that saw him play so well this season. Up next is Brentford, Ipswich and West Ham, top fixtures and two of which are played at home. They all concede goals at constantly and there is more than a slight chance of Kluivert being asked to convert a spot kick at least once.
Another factor to include is Kluivert has had some wonderful strikes far outside the box, many of which are more than worthy of winning a goal of the month poll; his confidence is high. Only £6.2m but highly owned at 33% and plays in GW29, worries me that I need to own him for this period, if not it’s easy to lose ground on other FPL managers. 12 goals and 5 assists in 23 games is a cracking record for a mid-table team. He is a transfer in for me, is he for you?
🇳🇿 Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest (7.3m – 47.1%)
He’s back! It was only a few GWs ago I was sad to part ways, but I did say our reunion will be soon… And here we are. 18 goals, 3 assists and with Nottingham Forest currently sitting 3rd in the Premier League, Chris Wood could very well be playing in the Champions League next season; pinch yourself stuff! No return in his last 2 but they were tight affairs v Arsenal and Man City, and I highly fancy him to get back amongst the points this GW V Ipswich.
6.1 pts per match, expected goal involvement (xGI) of 0.47 (per 90) & 0.43 expected goals (xG) reinforces he is due a return or two. With not so many solid forwards to choose from this GW, the fact he is being selected as captain this GW by many managers, comes as no shock. Genuinely, I would own Wood over Haaland and that’s not even considering his price of £7m+ less. There is a high chance he is the highest scoring player this GW and when you have the Kiwi Haaland, who needs the robot anyway?
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 29
🇧🇷 Matheus Cunha – Wolves (£7m, 9.5%)
Suspended, again. Even though he received the red card in the FA Cup, it has ramifications for the Premier League and FPL. A four-game ban was given, and you won’t see him until 5th April (GW31). Missing another 3 games leaves a gap in your team that requires filling, for the short term at least. This is unfortunate as a Cunha owner who would have captained him this week v Southampton, I will have to consider who fills in for him while suspended.
A real shame because at under 10% owned playing Saints, West Ham, and Ipswich he could have been the top performing player, but alas, it’s not meant to be. Good alternatives in the form of Chris Wood, Strand-Larsen, Wissa & Evanilson are to be considered, just ensure over this busy period when you will require your bench, you pick one and transfer out. The most straightforward move is Chris Wood, yes team, I know; currently it seems as though I’m his biggest fan.
🏴 Cole Palmer – Chelsea (£11m, 56.7%)
No return in 7 games, managers finally have lost patience. We all know Palmer does not have the best record against the top 6 sides but look at who he has played during his blanks. West Ham, Wolves, Southampton, and Leicester… 3 of the bottom 4! Granted he was extremely unlucky to not score with an xG of over 1 v Southampton, but sometimes it just doesn’t fall for you. The sticking point here though is price. £11m for a midfielder not even scoring the clean sheet bonus point is a problem. While he was scoring highly at the beginning of the season, it was risky to go without, but that thinking has now cooled and the level of threat is not as severe.
A tough away fixture to Arsenal next doesn’t exactly tempt managers to keep either. Prior to writing this, I was set on keeping… I now think I have shaken off the FOMO and am ready to let go of the ex-Man City midfielder. The flexibility he affords you in budget is of vital importance. Sure, once he starts performing again there’s no doubt he will make his way back into my team, but for now, I will have to put him on ice!
🏴 Lewis Hall – Newcastle (£4.9m, 12%)
Injured for what looks like the remainder of the season. Yes, Newcastle don’t play this weekend anyway but GW30 onwards their fixture run is brilliant, with Brentford, Leicester, and Ipswich on the horizon. At only £4.9m currently, he was such a great value pick in the game allowing you to spend greater budget elsewhere. He is still 12% owned and only 260,000 managers have opted to remove him so far, possibly in the hope he has a miraculous return and though this is technically possible it would indeed be a miracle to see him play again this season.
In a busy BGW29 he might not be your priority, but it’s a good time to exchange him for a player that features this GW, even for a -4 hit. This week will see managers take the most hits so far this season with at least a -4 or even -8 being the standard, so it’s a perfect time. If you can field a full playing eleven, you can put it off for a GW or so. Don’t take a hit unless you really need to.
Top Tip – You can’t have them all. With many hard decisions due to budget or GW double and blanks, prioritise your big players and complete your team from there. Take in all information and listen to other strategies FPL managers are making, but make the moves that you consider to be the best for you and your team. This season, there is no meta build or one size fits all, its team dependent. (Obviously, just continue to come here for all the top tips and an easy life!)
🦸 Gameweek 27 Captaincy Selections
🇵🇹 Bruno Fernandes – Man United (£8.4m, 13%)
What do you mean no Mo? With Liverpool one of the teams blanking this GW, we must cast our eye elsewhere. Usually, when Mo has a hard fixture, the captaincy is handed straight over to Haaland but not so. With Man City still unable to find some rhythm, it is across Manchester where I think the best captaincy lies. I have advocated for his transfer in this week and think he could score highly against Leicester. I have penalty and brace vibes, and if it pays off, your rank could go sky high! It’s a close call but preferring to mostly captain a midfielder whenever I can, Bruno edges the armband for me.
Alternative Captain Options
All midfielders for me. In-form Gibbs-White is a good selection v relegation threatened Ipswich, Kluivert v a porous Brentford and if you believe in the FPL gods, I dare say Chris Wood also v Ipswich. Surely it couldn’t be another hat-trick, could it?
Top three for me this GW: Bruno, Gibbs-White, Kluivert.
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
I structured my team in GW24 in order to navigate BGW29 only with free transfers (FT) saving my chips for the latter part of the season. Cunha and Veltman will most likely go for Wood and Ait-Nouri. The question is, do I also take a -4 hit for an attacking midfielder, Bruno or Kluivert perhaps?
This GW I will choose a few differentials as the opportunity to climb the rankings is high. Captaincy is key as ever, but either way, it’s definitely going on a midfielder for higher upside with most of my chips remaining and not a lot of time in which to play them, all my transfers in will be short term. Good luck team and be sure to drop your teams over on X.
