Saturday’s SPFL Accumulator Tips
Celtic will look to return to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership when they host Hearts on Saturday afternoon. Brendan Rodgers’ side suffered just their third league defeat of the season when falling to a 3-2 loss at home to Old Firm rivals Rangers before the international break. Celtic will be keen to bounce back from that bruising setback and they should get back up and running against Hearts.
The Bhoys have already beaten the Jam Tarts both home and away this season, claiming a 2-0 win at Parkhead before triumphing 4-1 in the capital. Thus, it makes sense to side with Celtic to win alongside over 1.5 goals. The Scottish heavyweights have won 13 of their 15 Scottish Premiership home games this season, scoring two or more goals in each of those victories. In fact, Celtic have racked up three or more strikes in 11 of those 13 home wins.
While Hearts have been ticking along nicely of late, their away record doesn’t make good reading. Neil Critchley’s side have come away empty-handed from eight of their 15 Scottish Premiership away games this season, the most recent of which saw them lose 2-1 at arch-rivals Hibs.
Hibernian can tighten their hold on third spot in the Scottish Premiership by seeing off St Johnstone on Saturday. David Gray’s side currently hold the longest unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership, avoiding defeat in each of their last 14 top flight tussles, a sequence that stretches all the way back to mid-December. That streak is made all the more impressive by the fact that the Hibees have taken top honours from nine of those 14 contests, most notably defeating Celtic 2-1 at home.
That doesn’t bode well for a rock-bottom St Johnstone side that are now five points adrift of safety with just eight rounds of fixtures remaining. Simo Valakari’s side have lost a league-high 18 of their 30 Scottish top flight matches this term, including nine of their 15 assignments away from McDiarmid Park.
One of those road losses came against Hibernian when St Johnstone last played at this venue back in September. Hibs have come on leaps and bounds since then under Gray’s tutelage and they should prove too hot to handle at Easter Road on Saturday.
Morton and Partick Thistle face off in a huge game in the fight for a top four finish in the Scottish Championship on Saturday afternoon. The two teams are currently separated by one place and four points in the second tier standings. With an entertaining encounter expected at Cappielow, backing Partick Thistle to score a minimum of one goal holds plenty of appeal.
The Firhill outfit have blanked in just seven of their 30 Scottish Championship matches this season, scoring at least once in 10 of their 14 away days. A deeper dig shows that Partick have hit the back of the net in 12 of their last 14 Scottish Championship matches, two of which were against Morton.
The Ton have found clean sheets hard to come by in recent weeks, silencing their opponents just once across their last seven league games. What’s more, Dougie Imrie’s side have failed to keep the back door shut in six of their last seven home matches.
Play-off chasing Alloa are a surprisingly big price to overcome a Dumbarton side whose relegation to League Two was confirmed last weekend.
Although Alloa have failed to win any of their last three, they have had a tough run of fixtures that has seen them face league leaders Arbroath, travel to a Queen of the South side with a formidable home record, then visit in-form Inverness, who would be third but for a 15-point deduction. Prior to that, they had won successive home matches against playoff hopefuls Cove Rangers and Kelty Hearts. In addition, they are in good form in front of goal, having scored at least two in six of their last seven.
Dumbarton, meanwhile, have been in woeful form. The Sons have failed to win a league match in 2025, and while they have picked up points against Queen of the South and Inverness over the past fortnight, this is likely to be little more than a death rattle for the struggling club. Across those fixtures they managed a total of just two shots on target, they have totalled just six shots on target across their last four matches.
Just two away wins in 14 this season tells its own story, and though they did pick a point when they visited Alloa earlier this season, the price on the home side is too good to overlook.
Rangers might have been unpredictable in their level under interim boss Barry Ferguson, but one consistent thread in their games is that they have been packed with goals. Expect that trend to continue in Dundee on Saturday evening, when the Gers will travel to face a similarly mercurial side.
Tony Docherty’s Dundee outfit have produced a whopping 108 goals from 30 Premiership matches this season. Their matches at Dens Park have been particularly exciting. Of their previous 15 home matches, 13 have produced at least three goals, while the other couple ended in 1-1 draws. One of these was against Rangers, but there is reason to believe that trend will change in this clash.
The Gers’ fixtures under Ferguson have been nothing if not entertaining. The five games have yielded a total of 20 goals, with Rangers conceding exactly two on four occasions. They have, conversely, been very powerful going forward, scoring three or more in each of the three away matches they have played.
With a strong squad available and fresh from a thrilling 3-2 win over Celtic a fortnight ago, it seems a safe bet that Rangers will again be involved in a high-scoring match in the City of Discovery.
