Schaffhausen v Neuchatel Xamax (Challenge League)
🏟
Friday 1st April – 6:30PM KO
It was a case of missed opportunity for Schaffhausen in their last match as they became one of the few teams to drop points to bottom club SC Kriens this season. It was a surprising and frustrating night for FCS and with only four points between them and top spot and also just three points off of the play-off place, they will be keen to ensure they capitalise in future.
They return home to the WeFox Arena on Friday evening, a place where they rarely fail to make the most of any opportunities that come their way. They are the side with the best home record in the league having lost only once, picking up thirty-one of a possible forty-four points overall. With six wins in their last seven there, it has been the main contributor to their promotion push this season.
Xamax have been distinctly middle of the road and struggle to find any real consistency. They go against a side here that have only conceded sixteen goals at home while Xamax have only scored eleven on their travels themselves, the second-lowest in the league. They were beaten convincingly home and away earlier this season by Schaffhausen and have lost on their last four visits without scoring. I can’t see that changing this time.

FC Wil v Aarau (Challenge League)
🏟
Friday 1st April – 7:15PM KO
Back in late November, FC Aarau began a ten-match unbeaten streak with a 2-2 draw at the IGP Arena against FC Wil. Four months on, they return to the same venue looking to put an end to a losing streak that stretches to three matches and is threatening to derail a promotion charge that looked unstoppable just a few weeks ago.
Their defeats to fellow promotion rivals Winterthur and Schaffhausen were certainly damaging enough, but a 2-0 home defeat to ninth-placed Yverdon-Sport, a side that had only won two previous away games really set alarm bells ringing at Brugglifeld. FC Wil are next on the agenda, a team that is unbeaten in their last four games in the league and have posted two home wins in that period. Not exactly the match you would choose to rectify this drop in form.
While the visitors are a little unpredictable currently, what you can be sure of on Friday evening is goals. Simply put, that is just what FC Wil do, they have scored fifty-one and conceded fifty-four in just twenty-seven games. Thirty-five of those goals have come in their last seven home games alone.
Aarau are just behind as the second-highest scorers in the league and had a total of fifteen goals in their last three matches and twenty-seven goals in their last six away fixtures. There should be goals galore again for these two in northeastern Switzerland.

Winterthur v Stade Lausanne-Ouchy (Challenge League)
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 5:00PM KO
A goalless draw at Neuchatel Xamax in the previous round allowed for Aarau to breathe a sigh of relief at the top of the table. Winterthur have closed the gap in recent weeks due to the league leaders poor form and their important 4-2 victory over them at the Schutzenwiese back on March 11th, but they could’ve been on top of the Challenge League table had they picked up three points rather than just the one at the Maladiere.
Winti will be happy to return to home comforts given their contrasting form home and away recently. They have won just two of their last six on the road but are currently on a four-game winning streak on their own patch, scoring thirteen goals and conceding just two in that run.
SLO are still the form team in the league at present but their results dipped before the international break with defeat away at Thun and a home draw with FC Wil.
The home side are more than capable of winning this game, they score loads at the Schutzenwiese (33) and concede few (13) while SLO have only scored thirteen themselves. That being said, the visitors are stubborn opposition, so I’d cover myself with a draw no bet here.

FC Zurich v Grasshoppers (Super League)
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 4:30PM KO
It is the 278th edition of the Zurich Derby as FC Zurich and Grasshoppers meet at the stadium they both call home on Saturday. The previous derby back in February was the first time that these two sides had played each other with either at the top of the table since 2014 and it is no surprise that FCZ have maintained their status at the summit when they requiant just under two months later.
After their 2-1 victory in Bern against Young Boys last time out, their first victory at the Wankdorf in eight years, FCZ remain twelve-points clear of Basel at the top and are edging closer to the first title since 2009. There are still some tricky assignments in their remaining nine matches, including away trips to Basel and St. Gallen, but it seems unfathomable that they could let this remarkable season slip from their grasp.
Their city rivals, Grasshoppers, are in a much different scenario. GC suffered a fifth defeat in a row against Basel before the international break and while they put up a fight, as they always seem to do, they were ultimately outscored in the six-goal thriller. The gap between themselves and Luzern at the bottom was nine points at the start of the month but has now been cut down to just five.
FCZ have won two of the three derby matches so far in 2021/22 and with GC fortunes in a much different place ahead of the fourth meeting, they should have no problem achieving a third victory in the final meeting of this campaign.

Sion v St. Gallen (Super League)
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 7:30PM KO
The international break probably came at a bad time for FC St. Gallen given the momentum they have built up over the last two months. Unbeaten in their last nine and up to sixth in the table, they are the form team in the country and it isn’t far-fetched to think that they could still claw back the eight-point gap on Young Boys in the final European spot. It would be a remarkable feat considering they were down in eighth with only sixteen points in December.
Sion remain pretty safe in seventh with an eight-point buffer over Luzern but the side from the Valais could do with stringing more wins together having only recorded two in their last nine matches. They have enjoyed their games against FCSG this season, winning at the Tourbillon and drawing twice at kybunpark, including the 1-1 draw at the start of March.
The home side typically provide a tough assignment for visitors to the Tourbillon, scoring in fourteen of their last seventeen at the venue and having won four of their last seven there too. FCSG are in scintillating form but they have conceded in three of their last five in the league. This fixture has also seen ten of the last eleven end with both teams finding the net and I expect that strong record to continue here.
