Nashville SC v Austin FC
🏟
Sunday 4th September – 1:30AM KO
It is Labour Day weekend in America which means that most of the MLS matches take place on Sunday and Monday rather than the traditional Saturday slot and one of the early games to kick off on Sunday sees Nashville SC hosting Austin FC in a tasty looking Western Conference clash.
Nashville have suddenly caught fire with three high scoring wins in succession which has seen them catapulted up to fifth in the table, but they have played more matches than anyone around them so they need to keep on winning if they are going to be around for the postseason.
Austin FC will definitely be in the play-offs but they have lost two of their last three games, which will have annoyed them because Los Angeles FC left the door open in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, but the men in green haven’t taken advantage of that.
These are still two of the best teams in the division though and I think we’ll see that in terms of an entertaining match. We have potentially the two leaders in the race for the MVP on the pitch here in Hany Mukhtar and Sebastian Driussi so that in itself should ensure we get a quality contest here.
Nashville have found form in front of goal with 11 of them in their last three matches, while nobody has scored more than Austin in the Western Conference this season. These two are good teams to watch going forward and I expect that to be maintained with three more goals here.

Toronto FC v CF Montreal
🏟
Monday 5th September – 12:30AM KO
In the early hours of Monday morning the two Canadian sides in the Eastern Conference will meet at BMO Field where Toronto FC take on CF Montreal in what remains a big game for both teams for different reasons.
Toronto FC are still outside the top seven looking in and only have five matches left to force their way in so they really need to take advantage of their home matches in particular. Montreal will be around when the play-offs are on but they won’t have given up chasing Philadelphia in the race for the first round bye.
That should immediately account for an open and free flowing game even allowing the fact for the derby element to this one and I don’t think anyone will be going against goals in this match, particularly when you look at the talent on show.
Toronto FC have signed two Italians who might be the best players in MLS in time, but if they’re not they are certainly in the top 10 and they are pushing the Canadians on in front of goal, but when you shell out for attacking talent your defence has to take a hit with the salary cap rules in MLS and Toronto are often found wanting in that area.
Montreal saw a lengthy unbeaten run ended last weekend but there are no shortage of goals in them too. They are the third highest scoring side in the Eastern Conference and being able to keep Djordje Mihailovic and Ismael Kone in the transfer window will certainly boost them over the remainder of the season.
The nature that the home side have to win should mean that goal chances flow in this match and with Toronto having one of the best front threes in MLS and Montreal carrying plenty of goal threat too I expect to see more than 2.5 goals here.

LA Galaxy v Sporting Kansas City
🏟
Monday 5th September – 1:00AM KO
Two more entertaining teams meet on Monday morning when Los Angeles Galaxy play host to Sporting Kansas City in a match which has plenty of history in it given the length of time these two have been in MLS.
There might not have been many meetings bigger than this one for the home side though. Galaxy now sit outside the top seven and are running out of time to get back in there and make the play-offs, which with the players they have recruited has to be a minimum requirement this term. They will know that Sporting KC aren’t going anywhere this season so this has to be a home win.
What KC are doing though is playing with freedom and that has been reflected in their goalscoring record in recent times where they have suddenly caught fire, buoyed by a couple of new signings who have hit the ground running.
Kansas City games are not the only ones that have been high scoring recently though. There have been 26 of them in the last five Galaxy matches and they have been getting as good as they have given, which brings plenty of jeopardy for them but in the situation they are in that is how they have to be.
I don’t see any difference in this match. We know all about the attacking stars at the Galaxy and they are finally delivering the goods but Kansas City have 12 goals in their last four matches as well. It takes two to tango and these two look perfect dance partners for over 2.5 goals at present.
