  • Inter Milan have failed to win any of their last four matches across all competitions, the international break came at a good time for them.

  • Inter are still top of the Serie A pile, with a six point gap on local rivals AC Milan.

  • The Nerazzurri have been devastating in the final third this season, with 66 goals scored. For context, that is the most in the league, and Como ranks second with 53 goals.

4 Selections @ 5.00

Over 1.5 Goals @ 1.30

Inter’s form has dropped since their captain, Lautaro Martinez, suffered a calf strain in the Champions League. The Nerazzurri have won just two of their seven games in his absence, but Martinez has had enough time to recover, and looks set to make his return this weekend. Inter have been an entertaining side to watch at the San Siro this season, with 39 goals scored from their 15 games - over 1.5 goals has landed in each of their last seven consecutive home matches.

They have only kept a clean sheet in one of those games, which will give Roma hope that they can be competitive against the league-leaders. Even though they were beaten 1-0 in the reverse fixture at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma managed 15 shots worth 1.35 xG, and were unfortunate not to find the back of the net. Yann Sommer made five crucial saves, as both sides were able to find good chances.

Over 3.5 Cards @ 1.72

Davide Massa was the designated referee for that clash, and he was kept busy. He blew for an eye-catching 47 fouls, which translated to seven yellow cards, but there very easily could have been several more. It was a feisty affair, which has been a common theme in head-to-head meetings between these sides over the years.

Roma have been shown at least two cards in each of their last 12 matches against Inter Milan, averaging 2.83 cards per game in that stretch. The Romans rank third in the Italian top flight this season for total fouls committed, which translates to an average of 1.97 cards per game. That figure rises steeply to 2.33 when playing away.

Inter's recent card totals in Serie A reads; 3-2-2-2-2 over their last five league outings, they can contribute to the card count here as well.

Marcus Thuram - Over 1.5 Fouls Committed @ 1.80

Inter’s average of 1.7 cards per is also relatively high considering they sit top of the pile, which reflects their aggressive pressing style under Cristian Chivu. That press is led by their forwards, which makes Marcus Thuram a player to target.

He was absent from the reverse fixture back in October due to a hamstring injury, but Thuram looks set to start up top here. Ange-Yoan Bonny started in place of the Frenchman against Roma previously, and he racked up three fouls before being replaced after 69 minutes. Martinez was equally as involved in the duels, adding another three fouls.

Thuram is averaging 2.25 fouls per 90 in the league this season, rising even further to 2.44 when playing on home turf. He has landed this selection in five of his last eight home starts, and now draws an excellent matchup to improve those numbers even more.

Donyell Malen - Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 1.36

Roma travel to the San Siro as underdogs, and if they are to pull off an upset on Sunday night, Donyell Malen will have to play a big role. The Dutchman has scored eight goals in his 12 appearances across all competitions since completing a January move from Aston Villa, highlighting how he has adapted seamlessly to life in Italy.

Malen has shown an affinity to perform in the big games, and he scored against both Como and Bologna just before the international break. Prior to that, he found the back of the net against Juventus, and bagged a brace against Napoli. Malen is averaging 4.35 shots per 90 for Roma, and 34.7% of those efforts have hit the target.

He tends to pop up in promising positions in the box, and because of that, is accurate with his efforts. Malen has landed this selection in 10 out of 12 starts for Roma.

📈 Inter Milan v Roma Form & Stats

Roma went into the international break after securing a 1-0 win against Lecce, but they had failed to win any of their last five matches before that, so the two-week hiatus came at a good time. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side currently sit sixth in the Serie A standings, only behind Juventus on goal difference, and they will hope to recover their form as we approach the run-in.

Roma have struggled on their travels this season, and have lost seven out of 15 in the league. That includes defeats against AC Milan, Juventus, and Como, which doesn’t bode well for them here.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan have been dominant on home turf this season, and they have won 11 of their 15 games in total. They have suffered just one defeat in their last 13 games at the San Siro, and that was against local rivals AC Milan, who share the same home ground, and are second in the league standings. This upcoming clash against Roma promises to be an easier matchup, but it could be a big game in the context of the title race, so Inter cannot afford to take their eye off the ball.

📔 Inter Milan v Roma Formation & Team News

If Martinez is deemed fit enough to start, he should replace Pio Esposito up front to partner Thuram. Federico Dimarco looks set to feature at left wingback, with Denzel Dumfries on the opposite flank. Carlos Augusto is suspended for this clash, which means Francesco Acerbi or Stefan De Vrij could return to the starting lineup. Alessandro Bastoni missed the last two games due to injury, but he could also be in contention to start in defence.

Wesley missed Roma’s last game due to suspension, and the Brazilian could be set for a longer layoff after picking up an injury while on international duty. He joins Artem Dovbyk and Paulo Dybala in the treatment room, so Konstantinos Tsimikas could continue at left wingback, with Devyne Rensch on the opposite flank. Manu Kone missed out against Lecce before the international break due to a muscle injury, and he is doubtful to feature this weekend.
