Servette v FC Zurich (Super League)
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 1:15PM KO
FC Zurich travel to Geneva on Sunday to tick off another matchday ahead of their inevitable coronation at the top of Swiss football for the first time since 2009. FCZ will be in a buoyant mood at the Stade de Geneve after a late equaliser in the 288th Zurich derby coupled with the late equaliser for YB away to Basel last weekend ensured that no damage was done to their twelve-point lead at the top.
The tenants, Servette FC, will not be quite so joyous given their humbling defeat at the Tulliere in their last fixture. The frustration felt by their fans at that performance and their erratic displays in general recently can be summed up by their two most recent games. SFC produced a good display to see off Sion in the Derby du Rhone before following it up with a 4-1 loss to a Lausanne side that hadn’t won a match since mid-November. It isn’t hard to see why the locals aren’t impressed.
Like most teams this season, FCZ have proven difficult for Servette to master. The first meeting early in the season at the Letzigrund ended in a 2-2 draw but in the two that have followed, home and away, FCZ have triumphed in a comfortable fashion. Geneva is the thirteenth most expensive city in the world and SFC are tricky opposition on home soil but this won’t be a costly trip for an FCZ side that hasn’t lost in the league since September.

Vaduz v Schaffhausen (Challenge League)
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 1:15PM KO
There may have been some lingering doubts over principality club FC Vaduz’ promotion credentials after an inconsistent run of form in recent weeks but their 4-1 victory over Yverdon-Sport was a significant rebuttal. The result was most impressive given that Yverdon had previously only lost one game at home this season, but most importantly it moved Vaduz within three points of top spot and just two behind the play-off position in second.
FC Schaffhausen are also in the thick of the promotion race and only one point behind Vaduz in fourth before their visit to Liechtenstein. FCS bounced back from a disappointing goalless draw against SC Kriens with a 2-1 home success over Neuchatel Xamax last weekend and will fancy their chances of leapfrogging their hosts at the Rheinpark.
The defeat suffered by Aarau at home to Winterthur on Friday evening has opened the door for both of these sides to close the gap on the promotion play-off spot that Aarau now find themselves in. A win for Vaduz would draw them level while FCS can move a point behind: an extra caveat to a crucial match on Sunday.
Vaduz have kept only three clean sheets in twenty-eight matches this season while Schaffhausen have conceded in all but three of their away matches, two of which were against bottom club SC Kriens. The last five matches between these two have also ended with both teams scoring and I believe with the opportunity to close the gap on second, that they both will find the scoresheet again here.

St Gallen v Basel (Super League)
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 3:30PM KO
St. Gallen produced yet another impressive display in their emphatic 3-0 away victory at Sion last Sunday. The result lifted them within six points of Young Boys and Lugano in the final European spot, a position that is now firmly in their sights after picking up twenty-four points from an available thirty since the winter break.
FCB stretched their unbeaten streak to five games in their 1-1 home draw with YB at St. Jakob-Park but were ultimately left feeling frustrated after twice surrendering a lead against the current champions. The performance was viewed by many as their best against YB in the last four years which made it all the more disappointing that they couldn’t get over the line and close the gap on Zurich at the top.
This should be the game of the weekend in Switzerland. FCSG haven’t lost in ten matches and have scored twenty-nine goals in that time while FCB are playing their best football for months and have only lost two of their last fifteen games. Historically, this fixture usually provides goals with only two of the last seventeen meetings at kybunpark featuring less than three goals.
It is just nine days until the six-year anniversary of FCB winning 7-0 at this venue in 2016 but times have changed dramatically since that day. It probably won’t quite be seven goals this time around but with both these sides in free-scoring form and also displaying vulnerability at the back, this should have plenty of goals.
