Sunday’s Premier League action wraps up with a trip to North London, as Tottenham host Newcastle. Both teams have had a mix of different runs of form throughout the season, but both sides will be hoping that consistent results will start to build up under their managers who were both appointed mid-season, in November, only a few months ago.
Tottenham are currently sitting fifth in the table, silently eyeing up a Champions League place. They are three points away from fourth but have played an extra game. With a handful of disappointing results to their name leaving Antonio Conte frustrated, they have slowly been regaining some promising form, winning five of their last eight games. Even though they have underperformed in matches that they should be winning, they have still managed to claim shock victories over the likes of Manchester City, proving that they can perform at the top level.
Newcastle are 14th in the table, only two points behind 13th position and one point ahead of 15th, albeit playing an extra game. This puts Newcastle in a solid position to finish the season off with a run of great form. Tottenham’s inconsistent results will provide Newcastle hope of taking something from the game, but an ever-improving Spurs side under Conte may make them rethink their chances on Sunday afternoon.
With Antonio Conte changing his tone after working for a few months at Tottenham, the contrasts of losing to Burnley but beating Man City have eventually let him recognise the development of his side, and their possibilities of reaching the top four. With Conte being a manager who will settle for nothing less than a win, I’m expecting this to be a great game against a Newcastle side who are well prepared for this fixture.

Tottenham v Newcastle Bet Builder Tips
Tottenham to Win
Despite Spurs producing an inconsistent run of results, things seem to be coming together for them as they have won their last two on the bounce, as well as five of their last eight league games. Being a side that produces a collection of different results, league wins are starting to pick up which will please Conte’s no-nonsense attitude.
Spurs have managed to deliver some impressive results over teams in the bottom half of the table, as they have recently demolished Everton 5-0 and Leeds 4-0. With Newcastle next in the firing line, The Magpies’ squad ability may not be able to match up to Spurs’ talent on the day, which can lead to them having a troublesome afternoon against a Spurs side with a growing belief in ability throughout the squad. With Newcastle losing their last two league games in a row, the chances of Spurs getting the better of them seem likely, as they come up against The Magpies during a low point in form.
Eddie Howe doesn’t think that his side are out of the woods just yet, as he has admitted that Newcastle are still in a relegation battle. Even though this isn’t what Newcastle fans want to hear, it may be a reality but the chances of being caught up with the teams towards the bottom of the table are very slim. The Magpies have been treated over the international break as the squad were flown out to Dubai for a training camp to prepare for this fixture. However, with Eddie Howe still being humble about Newcastle’s league position, they might end up struggling against Spurs.
With Tottenham having the fourth best home form in the league this season, this will cause even more worry for Newcastle, as this will pose a more difficult challenge on Sunday afternoon. With Spurs shaping up nicely and a Newcastle side seeing a dip in form, I believe that the result will slide in favour of the London side.

Prediction: Tottenham to Win
Over 2.5 Goals
Even though I think that Tottenham will get the better of Newcastle, I don’t think that the visitors will roll over without a fight. With Newcastle showing a resilient performance against Chelsea recently, whilst missing some glowing goalscoring chances, and falling at the hands of Everton despite having 17 shots, Newcastle will always pose a threat to goal no matter the result. Because of this, I’m expecting Newcastle to bring a challenge to Spurs, with the game ending up with over 2.5 goals.
Goals in this fixture seems like a certainty for me. Tottenham and Newcastle have both scored in six of their last eight fixtures, showing that both sides produce a strong attacking threat that allows them to remain highly competitive in their fixtures. On the other hand, Newcastle have also conceded in six of their last eight fixtures with Spurs conceding in five of their last eight. This illustrates the idea that both sides put the ball in the back of the net easily, but sometimes struggle with keeping a tight defence. This suggests that Spurs will be able to break Newcastle down on Sunday afternoon, but Newcastle will definitely be able to pose a threat with Spurs’ defence still looking a bit rocky.
During Tottenham’s home games, they witness an average of three goals per match. This collection of goals scored and goals conceded highlights the amount of action that is usually present in Spurs’ home fixtures. This stat cements this selection even more, as the likelihood of both teams posing an attacking threat will lead to a good amount of goals. 71% of Spurs’ home matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals fly in, which strengthens the chance of action between the two sides.
Also, with Tottenham having over 2.5 goals in five of their last eight matches, the competitiveness and willingness of both sides on Sunday will result in Newcastle pushing Tottenham to the edge as they try to steal something from the game.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals
Emil Krafth to be Shown a Card
Throughout my bet builder selections, I have broken down the reasons why despite the fact that I expect Newcastle to pose a serious threat, I can’t see past Spurs ending the day with three points. Because of this, I’ve had a look where Newcastle can be on the back foot. With Kieran Trippier still ruled out, despite his speedy recovery, Emil Krafth has been the man to step in for him at right back. With pressure piling on Krafth to produce good performances as a placeholder for Trippier, he knows that his run of starts will end at some point soon.
The Swedish international racks up an average of 1.83 fouls per game, which can prove to be an Achilles heel for Newcastle. Slotting in at the right back position, Krafth will have the task of coming up against the likes of Son and Reguilon when Spurs attack down the wing. Son boasts a wealth of exceptional attacking talent that results in an immediate goalscoring threat, whether that’s direct or by creating chances for others. This will leave Krafth with a huge job to fulfil as Son will most definitely keep him busy down the left side. With Conte’s three at the back formation, we can expect Reguilon to make overlapping runs to help Son in attacking phases of play. This can overwhelm Krafth and overload him, which will lead to him not being able to handle the Spurs attack down their left wing. Because of this, Krafth is my pick for a booking.
Being booked in his last game, this has contributed to Kraft picking up four yellow cards this season. Playing as a backup to Trippier and deployed in defence when needed, four bookings is a hefty amount considering the 11.5 full 90 minutes that he has played. Playing in six of the last seven Newcastle games due to Trippier’s absence, I only expect Krafth’s pile of yellow cards to build.
