Osnabrück v Würzburger Kickers
🏟
Tuesday 25th January – 6:00PM KO
We have a fixture between a mid-table, top half ranked side who were relegated from the 2. Bundesliga against another relegated side, who are facing the same predicament at the moment.
Osnabrück are 8th, and six points behind potential promotion spots. Their recent results have been reasonable, nothing spectacular. A few good results can see them slide into contending though. They have won nine, and also drawn and lost six. The same can be said for their home record. Five wins, two draws, four losses. Osnabrück have scored just 11 from 11 games, but have lost just one of the last five and have won two of the last four.
Wurzburger Kickers are struggling and are second bottom of the table, with 15 goals scored they have scored the least amount of goals in the league. The Kickers have failed to win their eight most recent league games, losing three straight. Their away record is less atrocious, picking up two wins and four draws in 11 away games. None of their five defeats were by a margin of more than two.
Osnabrück’s Kunze is suspended, he has played 21 games and has scored three, while Würzburg will miss more players. Mainly it’s Lars Dietz and Marvin Pourié (4 goals scored this season) whom are starting players that will be missed.
I have Osnabrück to win this, but it points towards an unspectacular, low scoring result.

Waldhof v Viktoria Köln
🏟
Tuesday 25th January – 6:00PM KO
Waldhof are facing off against Viktoria Köln which we can look at as an affair of a side in the race for promotion versus a side battling to avoid relegation. Waldhof Mannheim are currently 4th, two points behind promotion spots, whereas Viktoria Köln are currently 14th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Waldhof have had a few disappointing results recently, they did however beat Würzburger Kickers 2-1 last week. They lost at home to Dortmund II the round before, which saw a good run of results at home end, they hadn’t lost their nine games before – winning 5 and drawing 4.
Viktoria Köln meanwhile suffered three defeats in a row and went on to beat SC Verl in impressive fashion, booking a 5-2 home win. It needs to be said that Verl are now 16th and have conceded the most goals in the league. Viktoria have lost seven of ten away games and suffered big recent losses at the hands of Kaiserslautern and Meppen; both a 4-0 defeat.
Waldhof have their core squad available. A few players are injured, but these are all reserves.
Moritz Fritz, Luca Marseiler and first goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas are three starting players out for this match for Viktoria.
All things considered, I’m leaning towards Waldhof for this one.

Freiburg II v Türkgücü
🏟
Tuesday 25th January – 6:00PM KO
Freiburg II are doing OK as a promoted side, finding themselves a spot in mid-table. Türkgücü are starting to wonder what winning feels like. They are struggling and are battling relegation.
The Freiburg second squad are currently in 11th place, and have won seven, drawn six and lost nine games so far this season. They are struggling a bit on the scoring end as they have scored only 18 goals so far. They have scored only seven in their last nine games played as well. Their home results are pretty decent though, winning five and drawing and losing three. They were actually on a streak of five home games without losing, before league leaders Magdeburg beat them 3-2.
Türkgücü are struggling. They have won five of 20, and have also lost nine games so far. The Munich side are also not a recipe for goals as they have scored 21 in their games and seven in their last 10. They have failed to win their last eight games played and they won just once in their last 10.
It seems even worse for the side looking at their away track record. Just one win all season. Their most recent away game result was a 0-0 draw against Viktoria Berlin, ending a six-game losing streak. Türkgücü have scored just one goal in their last five away games played though.
I expect Freiburg II to clinch the win here, and I expect goals hard to come by.
For Freiburg, Vincent Vermeij (4 goals) is out, as well as Robert Wagner (21 apps) who faces a suspension. Türkgücu don’t miss any key players, so I’m backing under 2.5 goals here.

Saarbrücken v Dortmund II
🏟
Wednesday 26th January- 6:00PM KO
Both sides are doing well, and will have their sights set at chances of promotion. Saarbrücken are 5th while the Dortmund second team are 7th, trailing their opponent by only three points. Saarbrücken have won ten games, drew seven and have lost five. They trail 3rd placed Kaiserslautern by only two points; a spot which grants a slot in the promotion playoffs.
Saarbrücken have won five of their last seven league games, and snapped a streak of two games without a win by beating Duisburg 4-3 away from home in the last round of matches. They have been performing well at home as well as of late, which makes them the favourite for me in this encounter. With just one home loss in the last seven league games and seven points from their last three, all looks good form wise.
Dortmund II have also been performing well, losing just once in their last seven – they did however lose four straight just prior. It’s win or lose so far away from home, with seven wins and four losses, but no draws.
No key players are out for Saarbrücken, while Dortmund’s Lennard Maloney (16 apps) is suspended.
Saarbrücken’s home for is the defining factor in this one for me, and I’m edging towards them taking all three points.

Duisburg v Magdeburg
🏟
Wednesday 26th January – 6:00PM KO
Duisburg are struggling. They have dropped into the relegation zone after just suffering a 4-3 home defeat to Saarbrücken. Magdeburg are clear and present well ahead of the chasing pack. They are a massive nine points clear, although Braunschweig have a game in hand and could cut the deficit to six.
Duisburg have won six games so far this season, and have lost thirteen, drawing only twice. Hagen Schmidt’s men have lost four of their last six league games played and have failed to win their last three home games. Duisburg have been struggling in defence as well. They have allowed nine goals against in their three most recent home games.
Magdeburg have won 15 games this season, and have won six of their last eight games without losing. They did fail to impress hosting bottom ranked Havelse on Sunday, in a 1-1 draw. Let’s see if that was a wake up call and whether they can book their eighth away win of the season. Magdeburg have collected seven points from their last three away games and have scored in all away games but one.
Duisburg’s Marvin Ajani is doubtful. He has appeared in 17 games so far this season. Marlon Frey is also a question mark and normally a starter (19 apps). Florian Kath is out for Magdeburg due to COVID-19, he is a starter normally. Alexander Bittroff (18 games) is also out.
Overall, I expect Magdeburg to collect another win.
