Saturday's SPFL Accumulator Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 10th May

Celtic v Hibernian

Scottish Premiership

14:00

Over 0.5 Hibernian Goals

Hibs are an intriguing price to score at least once at Celtic given the excellent form of David Gray's side, who are still chasing European football for next season while the hosts bask in title-winning glory.

The visitors have lost only one of their last 19 fixtures. A feature of these games has been the volume of goals scored by Hibs. They have netted two or more in seven of their last nine games. On top of this, they should be a side confident of going up against Celtic, having beaten them 2-1 at Easter Road when they last played.

The Hoops, meanwhile, have not been at their defensive peak, which came at the start of the season. They have conceded a goal or more in seven of their last nine league matches.

Although Celtic have kept clean sheets in their two previous home games with Hibs this season, the fact they have nothing to play for here, plus the carrot of European football for the guests, suggests the Edinburgh club are more than capable of netting.

Dundee United v St Mirren

Scottish Premiership

14:00

Over 0.5 St Mirren Goals

It’s 5th versus 6th in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon as Dundee United host St Mirren. Dundee United’s hopes of playing European football next season have been dented by back-to-back losses against Celtic and Hibernian, respectively. As for St Mirren, they are unbeaten in three matches following last week’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen.

Given the contrasting form of the two teams coming into this clash, St Mirren look well worth siding with to score at least one goal at Tannadice on Saturday. The Saints have struck at least once in eight of their last nine league games, including in each of their last three.

What’s more, that nine-game sample includes two games against Rangers and one against Celtic, with St Mirren scoring in each of those three showdowns with the Glasgow heavyweights. On top of that, Stephen Robinson’s side have notched in 11 of their 16 league games away from home this season, further suggesting they can make their mark against Dundee United on Saturday.

Jim Goodwin’s hosts have failed to keep a clean sheet in 10 of their 17 Scottish Premiership home games this season, conceding multiple goals in four of their previous six top-flight outings at Tannadice.

Kilmarnock v Dundee

Scottish Premiership

14:00

Over 1.5 Kilmarnock Goals

Kilmarnock will be aiming to make it three Scottish Premiership wins in succession when they play host to Dundee on Saturday. Derek McInnes’ men have pulled themselves six points clear of the relegation play-off spot thanks to a pair of 2-0 wins over Ross County and St Johnstone, respectively. Dundee, in contrast, are looking nervously over their shoulder at 11th spot following last week’s 2-1 loss at home to Motherwell.

Dundee’s defensive shortcomings and recent losses have only demonstrated their flaws further, with no team conceding more goals than Tony Docherty’s team (73) in this season’s Scottish Premiership. It's also worth noting that the Dark Blues’ backline had been breached twice or more in a sizeable 23 of their 35 top-flight matches this term, including five of their last six away from home.

That doesn’t bode well ahead of a trip to Rugby Park to face an in-form Kilmarnock side that have hit multiple goals in three of their last four matches. What’s more, Killie have scored a minimum of two goals in two of their previous three league meetings with Dundee this season, so they look well placed to repeat the trick on Saturday afternoon.

Airdrie v Stenhousemuir

Scottish Championship Play-Offs

14:00

Airdrie to Win

Airdrie were strong value for their 3-1 win over Stenhousemuir in midweek, but a late penalty for the Warriors keeps their interest alive ahead of the return match.

The Lanarkshire side outclassed their opponents on Tuesday, giving up only three shots in total and just one shot on target. For this match, their greater squad depth should also be a factor. Stennie only managed to name four substitutes for the midweek game, while their part-time status and ageing squad will be a clear impediment to achieving a positive result.

Stenhousemuir don't come into this match in good form in any case. Their sole victory in their last 10 matches was last weekend against already-relegated Dumbarton. Prior to that, they had lost four of five.

By contrast, Airdrie have been significantly improved from the side that went five months without a win earlier this season. With victories in five of their last eight home matches, they start as red-hot favourites here and will be eager to build some momentum ahead of a likely spot in the final.

Reaching the play-offs was a big achievement for Stennie this season, but they are simply not good enough to compete at this level.

Cove Rangers v Queen of the South

Scottish League One Play-offs

14:00

Cove Rangers Double Chance

Queen of the South's failure to beat Cove Rangers at Palmerston on Tuesday could well be fatal to their promotion hopes, with the Dumfries club unlikely to win in 90 minutes in Aberdeen.

Although Queens finished 3rd in League 1, this was owed almost wholly to their record at home. On the road, they picked up only three victories over the whole season, scoring just 14 times in the process. Furthermore, they failed to win even a single match against a team that finished in the top half of the table on their travels.

To make matters worse, regular starters Adam Brooks and Harry Cochrane both went off injured in midweek for Peter Murphy’s side in a potential hammer blow if they miss out. Brooks is Queens’ top scorer on 10 goals in all competitions: no one else in their ranks has more than five. Given he has these in just 26 appearances, it underlines his importance.

Cove won both home fixtures against Queen of the South by two goals in the regular season, suggesting they have a significant edge prior to this match.

Paul Hartley's side are undefeated in their last five matches while they have suffered defeats in only four of their last 22 in the league, including the midweek clash. It would be a big shock if they were to lose this encounter.
