England have never ever been too successful when it comes to big tournaments and taking penalties, but that’s not to say they haven’t been awarded their fair share over recent years. Over their last eight penalty shootouts at major international football tournaments, both World Cups and European Championships, the Three Lions have lost six and won just two.
Despite this overall poor record, England did win their last penalty shootout in a major international tournament after a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes led to a 4-3 win on penalties against Colombia in the last-16 stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
