Getafe are b*ds, simple as that. They were the worst disciplined side in all of Europe’s top leagues last season with a ridiculous 117 yellow cards and 7 red cards in their 38 domestic fixtures… That’s an average of 3.26 cards per match. Oh and guess who were the second most booked team? Yep, that would be Getafe’s opponents this evening, Celta Vigo. The Vigo based club recorded 104 yellows and 5 reds giving them an average of 2.87 cards per game in the 2020/21 league season.
The man tasked with keeping a lid on things is Juan Martinez Munuera whom has handed out 10 yellows and a single red in the 3 La Liga matches he has reffed so far this season which isn’t too bad however, he hasn’t officiated either of these sides yet. In the 4 Getafe matches that Munuera reffed last season, he dished out 24 cards at an average of 6 per game, a ratio which he also maintained in Celta Vigo matches with 12 cards brandished in just 2 fixtures. Basically I am fully expecting a card fest tonight and here are four players that I will be keeping tabs on…
Getafe v Celta Vigo Bet Builder Tips
David Timor to be Booked v Celta Vigo
This is a very, very angry man who could probably do with chilling out a bit, well after he gets another booking tonight anyway. Timor has a career average of 0.44 yellow cards per 90 minutes played… I can’t even tell you how obscene that is when you consider this is his 13th season as a professional footballer! He managed 19 yellow cards in the 2013/14 La Liga season which must be close to a record and he then almost bettered it with 16 yellows and a red for Las Palmas in 2018/19. The man is just a grade A s**thouse and you’ve got to respect it.
Unsurprisingly, Timor tops the charts again this season with a another silly average of 0.69 yellow cards per 90 minutes played. It also looks likely that he 32 year old will line up against Denis Suarez and Brais Mendez, whom are both in the top 5 most fouled players in the Celta Vigo squad. If he plays the full game then I’d be confident we will see David Timor in the book yet again here.

Damian Suarez to be Booked v Celta Vigo
Another seasoned s**thouse in this Getafe side is their 33 year old right back, Damian Suarez. The Uruguayan’s career yellow card per 90 average stands at 0.37 which can only be bettered by the aforementioned David Timor. However, Suarez bested his Spanish teammate in last season’s yellow card per 90 tables with a ratio of 0.48! Again, these numbers are ridiculously high but have been consistent since his debut in 2011, this madman has been served at least 13 yellow cards in 7 of his last 8 La Liga campaigns… To put that into perspective, between both Sergio Ramos and Pepe, they only hit that mark once in their 27 season in Spain’s top flight.
Suarez has started in 6 of Getafe’s 9 league games this season so I expect him to be named at right back again this evening meaning he will probably face one of, or both Franco Cervi and Santi Mina. They may not be household names but if you look at my card sheet below you’ll see they rank 2nd and 3rd for the most fouled players in the Celta Vigo squad meaning our pal Damian is going to have his work cut out.

Mauro Arambarri to be Booked v Celta Vigo
Yes, another Uruguayan Getafe player. Mauro Arambarri picked up 11 yellow cards in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons and has continued in the same vein with 2 bookings to his name already this campaign. As you’ll have probably guessed already, career card per game average is the first and most important stat I look at when it comes to booking bets and Mauro sits third (behind Timor and Suarez) at 0.32 which is basically a caution every 3 full matches played.
The 26 year old midfielder is one of the first names on the team sheet so I have little doubt he will start on the right side of midfield against Celta Vigo which brings me to his potential opponents. Javi Galan and Franco Cervi are the two most fouled players in Celta’s squad and both play on the left, meaning Arambarri will be the man most in contact with them. Let’s hope they both start and get clattered by our boy, Mauro.

Hugo Mallo to be Booked v Getafe
We finish with our first Celta Vigo player, their captain and right back, Hugo Mallo. He set the tone early with a red card on the opening day of the season against Atletico Madrid and has since seen yellow twice more this campaign. Mallo’s career yellow card average is on par with Mauro Arambarri’s at 0.32 which is also the highest in away side’s squad.
Celta Vigo’s captain has been at the club for the entirety of his 13 year career and barring an injury will almost certainly play the full match which is always a bonus when looking at player cards. This will be seen as a game Celta Vigo should win and I am hoping the captain leads from the front and gets stuck into this brutal Getafe side.
