Massive game in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening between the only two sides in Germany who are even remotely capable of challenging Bayern Munich for the title. The game is being shown live on Sky Sports and I have decided to put together a Cheat Sheet and conducted some research to put together my favourite selections for a Bet Builder in this one. Both sides will be looking to bounce back after midweek disappointments in the Champions League, with the hosts in particular looking to put together a consistent run of form during a poor start to the campaign. Leipzig scored a last minute penalty to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw against PSG but it still wasn’t enough to keep their Champions League dreams alive. As for Dortmund, well back to back UCL defeats against Ajax sees them in danger of not making it through their group. They are faring much better in the Bundesliga however where they sit 2nd, just a point behind league leaders Bayern Munich. The hosts are in a disappointing 8th and will be hoping for a win here to jump-start their season.
Leipzig v Dortmund Bet Builder Tips
Over 2.5 Goals
Both sides are generally very consistent in the goals market given their fantastic forward players and I have to fancy goals in this one when you add the amount of key defensive players missing from either side. Granted, there is no Haaland through injury but still expect to see the likes of Andre Silva, Youssef Poulsen, Christopher Nkunku, Dani Olmo, Marco Reus, Thorgan Hazard and Donyell Malen on the pitch on Saturday night.
Reports suggest Leipzig will be without four senior defenders on Saturday night with Will Orban joining the likes of Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg and Marcelo Sarracchi on the sidelines. As a result, a young and relatively back three of Nordi Mukiele, Mohamed Simakan and Josko Gvardiol are tipped to start here. Dortmund are missing some key defensive players themselves in the shape of Marcel Schmelzer, Nico Schulz and Raphael Guerreiro all set to miss out. Goals highly likely then given the defensive deficiencies combined with the exceptional forward players on display.
Josko Gvardiol to be Carded
The 19 year old Croatian was brought to the club this summer from Dinamo Zagreb for a sizeable fee of £17m. He is clearly a talent but I don’t think he would of been expecting to play so much football, so soon in his Leipzig career. The injuries to four Leipzig defenders have seen him pushed into the starting 11 and he is fully expected to start once more on Saturday evening.
His Cheat Sheet stats see him standout from a Leipzig defensive point of view as he leads the way in both fouls committed and yellow cards. Up against the likes of Reus, Hazard and Malen who you can see rank highly in the fouls drawn section, he looks the ideal selection and at a price of 3.60 very good value too it has to be said.
Christopher Nkunku 1+ Shots on Target
Beginning to run out of superlatives for this guy who netted once more and ran the show in midweek in the 2-2 draw with PSG. The French giants are surely regretting their choice to allow Nkunku to move to Germany a couple of seasons ago for a measly fee of just £12 million, there is little doubt he is worth at least four or five times more than that now.
Ten goals and six assists in his 16 appearances this season mean he averages a goal involvement in every single game he plays and is without doubt the main man at Leipzig. His Cheat Sheet stats are very impressive too with the Frenchman averaging 1.39 shots on target from the near 3 shots he attempts per game. Dortmund have defensive deficiencies of their own and have shown multiple times this season they are far from secure at the back. Expect Nkunku to enjoy himself and get plenty of joy.
