Brentford v Crystal Palace
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 18th August at 14:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
📺
Watch Live: Sky Sports
In this season’s very first London derby, it’s Brentford who host Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees have used the summer transfer window to plug a few gaps in their squad but without spending excessively. The signings of Igor Thiago and Fábio Carvalho will help create a deadly front three alongside Ivan Toney should he stay, surely striking fear into opposition defences.
For Crystal Palace, on the other hand, it’s been a pretty quiet window so far, though the additions of Ismaïla Sarr and Chadi Riad, both for €15 million should provide a small boost. The loss of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich will surely be felt and it remains to be seen how The Eagles will cope, although the significance of retaining Eberechi Eze cannot go understated.
It’ll be a stern test for the home side off the back of a pretty disappointing season, however, they have a golden opportunity to take advantage of a Palace side who are perhaps not quite done in the market.

Brentford v Crystal Palace Best Bets
There’s value to be found in a few different markets here but one we particularly like is the fouls market.
Daichi Kamada and Odsonne Edouard are definitely the standouts here, with Kamada having averaged 2.3 fouls per game in Serie A last season. You can back him to commit 2 or more fouls @ 1.83.
Odsonne Edouard maintained an impressive average of 1.8 and has been priced at a generous 1.25 to commit 1+ foul or 2.25 to commit 2+ fouls. Depending on how safe you want to play it, both are great options.
In the goals market, over 1.5 seems the obvious pick, having won in the last 4 clashes between these sides as well as in all ten pre-season friendlies involving Crystal Palace or Brentford.
Finally, the shots on target market definitely merits some intrigue; we’re particularly looking at Ivan Toney @ 1.36 and Eberechi Eze @ 1.62. The pair are arguably the biggest threats from their respective sides and both averaged over 1.3 shots on target per 90 last season.

📊 Brentford Form and Stats
It’s been a real mixed bag for Thomas Frank’s men in the five pre-season friendlies they’ve played, picking up one win, one loss and three draws. Most recently, Brentford and Wolfsburg could not be separated in a thrilling 4-4 draw at the Gtech Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, Mathias Jensen and Kevin Schade all found their way onto the scoreboard despite The Bees only registering 5 shots on target.
The signings of Igor Thiago and Fábio Carvalho will be crucial in determining the outcome of this season for Brentford, who underperformed by 8.29 expected goals and a remarkable 13.94 expected points last season. Part of this can be put down to Toney’s absence for large parts of the season although he was far from prolific when he did make his eventual return.
This will be Brentford’s fourth season in the Premier League since making the jump in 2021 and most fans will be hoping for a top 10 finish. They managed this in the 2022-23 season, finishing 9th, just two points behind Villa who secured European football in 7th.
📊 Crystal Palace Form and Stats
Palace finished the season in remarkable fashion, recording five victories and a draw in their last six. Amongst these, wins against Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham as well as humiliating Manchester United 4-0 and, to close the season, a 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.
Oliver Glasner’s men carried their form into pre-season with impressive 3-1 victories against Wolves and West Ham before a 1-1 stalemate with Nantes. In a further boost, Daichi Kamada netted his first goal for the Eagles following his move from Lazio.
Even more responsibility will fall onto the shoulders of Eberechi Eze following the departure of Michael Olise over the summer. His 15 league goal contributions helped guide them to their first top-half finish since 2015 and he was good value for it too. In fact, he’s outperformed his xG in all four of his seasons for Palace so it’s no wonder they’re clinging onto him for dear life this transfer window.
⚔️ Brentford v Crystal Palace Head-to-Head
The head-to-head record does not make for pretty reading for Brentford fans nor neutrals truth be told. Crystal Palace are unbeaten in seven showings of this fixture although it seems disingenuous to count the first of them which came in 1977.
Of the six 21st century showings, five have resulted in draws with none of them exceeding 1-1 in terms of goals. That said, another way of looking at it is that both teams have scored in each of the last four.
Last time out Keane Lewis-Potter scored inside a minute and a half, marking Brentford’s fastest ever Premier League goal. Unfortunately for them, things took a turn for the worse as an Eze goal and Olise brace put an end to the Eagles’ eight-match winless run.
