Spain ensured top spot in League A Group 4 is theirs after beating Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen. They now sit on 13 points from five games, unbeaten in competitive matches since March 2023.

On the contrary, Switzerland have had their relegation mathematically confirmed, after failing to beat Serbia – condemned to a fourth-place finish regardless of the outcome in this game, as a result of their head-to-head record with Serbia.

With neither team having anything to gain from this fixture, the safety might be taken off, as both teams look to put on a show for the Spanish crowd.

When these sides met in Geneva for the reverse fixture, this game finished 4-1. Spain have seen over 2.5 goals land in three of their five games so far.

Behind Zeki Amdouni, Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has accumulated the most shots for his side at the Nations League with seven attempts, averaging 1.75 shots per game.

Dani Olmo made just his second Nations League appearance for Spain last time out against Denmark. He marked it with an assist to help his side beat Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen to secure top spot.

He started in an advanced midfield role, taking up a large responsibility in the final third with Lamine Yamal absent. Olmo managed two shots, with one on target. His other shot grazed the woodwork.

Olmo had a standout Euro 2024 campaign, scoring three goals which put him as the joint-top goalscorer in the tournament. He finished with an average of 3.55 shots per 90 in the competition.

Switzerland have already had their relegation confirmed, having picked up just two points from their five games. It is an ideal matchup for Olmo to exploit.

Switzerland made 10 fouls in their previous meeting with Spain, as they were beaten 4-1 in front of a home crowd.

Remo Freuler accounted for two of those fouls, also picking up a booking. In total, he has made eight fouls in five appearances for his country this term, averaging 1.63 fouls per 90.

When Spain faced Denmark last time out, both Christian Norgaard and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were shown yellow cards, as they struggled to contain the Spanish midfield.

Freuler has completed the full 90 in four out of five Nations League appearances so far, repeating that feat against an enterprising side like Spain would be ideal for him to improve his foul record.

Alvaro Morata also appeared off the bench against Denmark, replacing Ayoze Perez to assume responsibility as the centre forward.

In his short cameo, Morata committed three fouls and was shown a booking late on. He is a fierce competitor and extremely willing to press. Because of that, he has registered two or more fouls in all three Nations League appearances so far.

Even at Euro 2024, Morata landed this selection in five out of six games, only failing against England in the final.

Since the start of that competition, Morata is averaging 2.71 fouls per 90, which is the highest in the Spain squad. The AC Milan striker has also accumulated three bookings in that time.

Despite his side struggling massively in the Nations League so far, Zeki Amdouni has been a standout performer on the international stage. He has racked up three goals in four starts for the Swiss, which is the highest tally in the squad.

The Benfica man is averaging 4.76 shots per 90 in the Nations League this season, comfortably the highest in the Switzerland squad. He has landed this selection in three out of four starts.

Last time out against Spain, Amdouni managed six shots, with his one shot on target resulting in a goal. He should be looking forward to this matchup.

In his previous outing against Serbia at home, Amdouni racked up seven shots, with five on target. Once again, he got on the scoresheet.

Luis de la Fuente is expected to make changes to his Spanish starting eleven, given that top spot is already secured. With little to play for, complacency might affect the efficiency of his troops, which could work to the advantage of Switzerland.

Murat Yakin will be looking to finish off his Nations League campaign on somewhat of a high note, so is expected to line up with a strong side.

Switzerland are averaging 5.6 corners per game, only failing to hit this line against Denmark, in which they finished the game with nine men after Nico Elvedi and Granit Xhaka were sent off.

Since then, they accumulated at least five corners in every game, including nine corners against Spain at home.

Alejandro Grimaldo has made three Nations League appearances under Luis de la Fuente so far, registering at least one shot in all of them.

The fullback has a tendency to push forward into advanced areas, and try his luck from distance. To exemplify that, all five of his shots in the Nations League have come from outside the box.

For Bayer Leverkusen, Grimaldo is averaging 2.2 shots per 90, a notably high number for a fullback. He will be the designated free-kick taker for Spain, and will likely position himself at the edge of the box from corners.

He had one shot against Switzerland from such a situation in the reverse fixture, a long-range effort following a cleared Spain corner.
