Luke Humphries v Jonny Clayton Best Bets
🎯 Over 3.5 Sets
Luke Humphries has yet to hit top gear at this year’s World Grand Prix and he is unlikely to have things all his own way against Jonny Clayton. Thus, siding with over 3.5 sets stands out in this quarter-final clash at 1.5.
While Humphries is expected to progress to the semi-final stage, Clayton is more than capable of winning at least one set. ‘ The Ferret’ has won five of the six sets he has contested at this year’s World Grand Prix to date, including three in his round two win over heavy-hitter Ross Smith.
While the Welshman now faces a step up in class, ‘Cool Hand Luke’ is not bulletproof, as we saw in the previous two rounds. The world number one lost a set to both Stephen Bunting and Ricardo Pietreczko on route to this stage, so a minimum of four sets looks well within range.
🎯 Jonny Clayton Over 2.5 180s
While Luke Humphries is the fair and obvious favourite to triumph, Jonny Clayton looks well placed to hit three or more 180s at 1.57. The ‘Ferret’ is very much a middle of the range maximum hitter, evidenced by the fact that he ranks 47th for 180s scored across the PDC this calendar year.
However, the Welshman won the maximum count 3-0 in his round one win over Ritchie Edhouse and he subsequently went on to fill up the treble 20 bed on four occasions in his second round success over Ross Smith. As such, he looks worth backing to repeat the trick against Humphries.
What’s more, Clayton is a very consistent 140 hitter, so he should give himself ample opportunity to deliver a minimum of three maximums against Humphries at an appealing price.
