AGF v Randers
🏟
Sunday 31st July – 1:00PM KO
The match between AGF and Randers is one of the more heated rivalries in Danish football. The derby has increased in importance over the past ten years, and it is a key fixture for both clubs.
AGF are off to a good start under new head coach Uwe Rösler. They were unlucky to lose to Brøndby in the opening fixture, but took an impressive 3-1 victory against Viborg FF last weekend. New signings Mads Emil Madsen (midfielder) and Sigurd Haugen (striker) both scored and delivered stellar performances in that match. So, did the captain and talismanic striker Patrick Mortensen. The victory was AGF’s first in 15 matches, but the potential has always been huge, and it seems that Rösler can utilize the potential of the squad.
Randers are off to a decent, although slightly underwhelming start of the season. They have two points in their first two games. They were lucky to get a point against FC Midtjylland in the opening match, but they delivered a good performance last weekend against OB. They pulled back to draw 2-2 after going down 2-0 in the first half, which should give a significant confidence boost.
Unfortunately for Randers, they have some serious injury concerns going into this match. Whereas AGF have the starting 11 injuries free, Randers are without Kallesøe, Andersson and Kamara who are all regulars and important players in the lineup. On top of that, left-back Kopplin is doubtful after going out injured last week.
Since it is still early in the season, I’m a bit cautious here. The pick for this game is draw no bet AGF victory at odds 1.80 at Betfair Sportsbook. If you feel more daring, you can also go for the home victory.

Viborg v Copenhagen
🏟
Sunday 31st July – 3:00PM KO
Viborg and Copenhagen are side by side in the Danish Superliga with three points each. Now they meet in what should be an interesting match on Sunday afternoon.
The home side was a great surprise in the Superliga last season as they qualified for European football. Here, they recently eliminated Lithuanian side Suduva out of the Conference League qualification, and they can now look forward to two fixtures against B36 from the Faroe Islands in the 4th qualifying round.
However, the European adventures takes it toll on the players as they return to the domestic league. Last weekend, Viborg lost 3-1 away to AGF, and I expect another weekend of “European hangover” from the green-whites. Playing every mid-week and travelling to the away games is tough on the thin Viborg squad, and I expect them to struggle in this one. Furthermore, Viborg have been having a tough time defensively since selling Lars Kramer to AaB, and their opponents are getting more big chances than usual.
Unlike Viborg, Copenhagen are yet to make their entrance into European football. They should thus be fresher and have spent a full week preparing for this matchup. Copenhagen won 3-1 away against AaB last week, and Jess Thorup’s troops are significantly better than Viborg on paper.
FC Copenhagen are without goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, who is injured. In his place, they’ll start Kalle Johnson, who has seven caps for Sweden to his name so is a very able deputy.
Due to Viborg’s European midweek fixture, and the level difference between the two squads, I’ll go with the away victory here. FC Copenhagen to win at odds 1.87 at Betfair Sportsbook.

FC Nordsjælland v Lyngby BK
🏟
Monday 1st August – 6:00PM KO
Monday night is derby night in Northern Zealand where FC Nordsjælland take on Lyngby at Right to Dream Park in Farum. It is also a meeting between two clubs with a plethora of exciting young players, so we should be in for a good one.
After a horrible last season, things have finally turned around for Nordsjælland. They lead the Danish Superliga after two victories in a row, and they have a strong squad. Last week, they dominated Brøndby away, where they normally always struggle, and the young players in the squad really seem to have clicked. Anyone who has played Football Manager will know the talent level at Nordsjælland, and the reality is just as good as the virtual world in terms of strength.
Newly promoted Lyngby lost 1-0 away against Horsens last weekend, and they are yet to win since the promotion. Last weekend’s game was poor by Lyngby, but they played well in week 1 where they came back from being down 2-0 to draw against Silkeborg at home.
The Lyngby team has a lot of quality defensively with former Brentford defender Andreas Bjelland as the big star, but overall the team has a lot of gaps. Lyngby has very limited financial opportunities, and a large part of the squad consists of either youngsters or players signed from the lower leagues, and they tend to struggle against the better teams of the league like FCN. Especially those that can play at a high pace.
Nordsjælland are usually strong at home on their astroturf, and when considering their recent form, we have to go with the home victory here. Odds 1.6 at Betfair Sportsbook is a fine price for this.
