Lyon v Troyes
🏟
Friday 19th August – 8:00PM KO
Lyon are dominant in their rivalry with Troyes and have won the last nine meetings between the clubs. Often, these have been one-sided in nature, with OL scoring at least three goals in four successive matches before Bruno Irles took over ESTAC in the winter break last season.
Irles made Troyes a rather dour and defensive side in Ligue 1. That has been little evident so far this season as they have been involved in high scoring losses against Montpellier (3-2) and Toulouse (3-0). Having conceded six goals in two games, though, they should be expected to travel to OL with the intention to shut up shop.
“I’ve said there will be changes,” the coach warned in his Wednesday press conference before the match.
Andreas Bruus will drop out because of injury at right-back but Troyes are set to be strengthened with the return of World Cup winning defender Adil Rami, who made the bench after injury last weekend. He is likely to be the centrepiece of a far more defensive team, the type of which was only edged 1-0 by Lyon when the sides met earlier this year.
Lyon, meanwhile, have had a staccato start to the season. Their match in Lorient was postponed last weekend, while on the opening day they struggled past Ajaccio 2-1 after making a superb start to the match.
Peter Bosz’s side also have had a habit of making heavy weather at home against teams they would expect to beat comfortably, so the value in this game is on under three goals. If OL struggle early, it would be surprising to see a high-scoring contest.
