OB v Viborg

Five points divide these two sides, who are both struggling a little at the moment. OB are starting to look better, but Viborg are one of this season’s big surprises. 

The home side have won their last two matches after going the first five rounds without a single victory, and things are looking better for the Odense outfit. Last week they pulled off an impressive 2-1 victory away against Silkeborg, and the offense is slowly looking stronger. 

At Viborg things are also looking decent. They are sitting comfortably in the top half of the league and they are coming off a 2-1 victory at home against Lyngby. Viborg have three victories in their last five league matches, and they’ll travel to Odense with plenty of confidence. Unfortunately for the greens, they lost left back Christian Sørensen, one of their best players this season, to FC Copenhagen on deadline day. 

Three of the last four meetings between these two sides have ended with under 2.5 goals. All three of them ended 1-1 in fact. OB are looking better defensively, and Viborg will have a hard time getting through on goal – especially without Sørensen. Both teams can live with a draw in this match, so it is unlikely that either of them will go all in to pursue the victory. We are thus going with under 2.5 goals at Betfair Sportsbook at odds 1.90.

AC Horsens v Brøndby

The away matches against Horsens have a special meaning to all Brøndby fans. In 2013, Brøndby avoided relegation in the last round by winning 1-0 in Horsens, and in 2018 they lost the championship by drawing 2-2 after leading 2-0. This match should be less dramatic, but it is impossible not to think of those previous clashes. 

The recently promoted hosts have done well since returning to the Superliga after a year in the second tier. They are seventh in the league and have only lost twice so far this season. Horsens are a defensively solid team and have conceded fourth fewest goals in the entire league. Unfortunately, though, they don’t have much to offer offensively, and their plan is thus always to shut down the opponents and hope for a lucky goal or a counter attack. 

Brøndby have just six points and are tenth in the league. They have lost five matches already, and the club is in crisis. They made some good signings at the end of the transfer window with a new striker and a new offensive midfielder coming in, but Brøndby still have a lot of gaps and issues. It is unlikely that the new offensive players will play a big role in this match, and they remain without left back Blas Riveros, the team’s best player, and goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. 

We expect a game with few goals. Horsens are strong defensively (six goals conceded) but weak offensively (seven goals scored), while Brøndby are weak in both ends of the field (13 goals conceded and six scored). The home side will sit back and try and close down the opponents, and Brøndby are really struggling to create chances. They have the third fewest chances created in the entire league. Pick of the game is therefore under 2.5 goals at odds 1.80 at Betfair Sportsbook.

FC Midtjylland v AaB

There is also a bit of extra nerve when Midtjylland take on AaB. It is a match between the new masters of Jutland and one of the oldest clubs in Denmark, and the fans do not like each other at all. 

The hosts recently hired Albert Capellas, former academy director of FC Barcelona, as head coach, and he had an excellent debut last week. Midtjylland played a great game and defeated Brøndby 2-0 away, and the optimism is truly back in Herning. The squad has a lot of potential, and star players Pione Sisto and Anders Dreyer are starting to shine again.  To make things even better for FCM, they have won four of the last five matches against AaB. 

AaB remains in crisis mode. They are second to last with just five points, and last week they lost away to Randers. The white and red striped players are looking lost on the field, and it might be time for a coaching switch soon if things don’t improve drastically fast. 

Midtjylland are the better team here, and at home they should pull away with a victory. Capellas seems to be moving the squad in a positive direction, and the mistakes of the coaches before him should be much of a concern here. The recommendation here is a home victory at odds 1.50 at Betfair Sportsbook.

AGF v FC Nordsjælland

The Monday fixture of the eighth round could easily prove to be the highlight. We have two of the best teams meeting each other, and it should be a blast. 

AGF are sitting fourth in the Superliga, and it is glory days under head coach Uwe Rösler. The former Man City player took over as head coach before this season, and the German has transformed AGF from one of the worst teams to a truly inspiring one. The whites are playing fast paced offensive football, and strikers Patrick Mortensen and Sigurd Haugen are forming an excellent duo up front. The home side are becoming better as each game goes by, and although they lost last weekend, they have three victories in their last four Superliga matches. To make things even better, they won 8-0 in the cup Thursday evening, so they should have plenty of confidence. 

Confidence is also the keyword at FC Nordsjælland. The Tigers are leading the Superliga and won 3-1 at home against FC Copenhagen last weekend. Wednesday evening, they also won in the cup, 1-0 away against BK Frem from the third tier, and they are thus entering with the hope of earning another three points. Nordsjælland have one of the strongest offenses in the league, and have the second highest xG so far this season. Their scoring percentage is furthermore the second highest in the Superliga. 

All sign points toward an entertaining and exciting fixture. Plenty of goals should be expected, and the pick of the game is over 2.5 goals at odds 1.87 at Betfair Sportsbook. Four of the last five matches between these two teams have gone over the line, and we should be in for a great one.
