KV Mechelen v Eupen
🏟
Saturday 22nd October – 5:15PM KO
KV Mechelen hosts Eupen in the AFAS Stadium.
KV Mechelen fired coach Danny Buijs last week after disappointing results at the start of the season. It did not seem to be a successful marriage between the Dutch coach and the board. Requested reinforcements failed to arrive during the transfer period, causing Buijs’ frustration. Assistant Defour took over immediately and saw his team win against Standard (2-0). It remains to be seen whether Defour, who has no experience as a T1, will adopt the same offensive style of play as his forerunner. He already has a good connection with the player group. As a player, he was a defensive midfielder with creativity, but it is difficult to make an informed judgment on that. It is a fact that Mechelen will face an opponent on Saturday who, like Standard the previous matchday, easily concedes goals, so the time has come to relaunch the team. Up front, Mechelen are looking for an effective striker. Ngoy is the best option but is not yet playing convincingly. It will be interesting to see how Defour will solve this.
Eupen booked an important win over OHL (4-2) last matchday. The away team was plagued by a virus and had to bring in some sick players at the end. Eupen clearly took advantage of that at the end of the match. Striker Prevljak seems back in form, the connections with the wingers and assist man Stef Peeters are improving. At the back, however, things are struggling. Coach Storck is not afraid to let the defense play man-to-man or to press extremely high when his team needs a goal. This approach often results in goals, although usually for the opponent. In the 13 league matches played, Eupen only kept a clean sheet twice.
We expect coach Defour to have his team play more offensively and be ball dominant at home. Eupen gained confidence after their win against OHL, but to play on a clean sheet is not their best option. Therefore, it will be interesting to play on both teams.

Sint Truiden v OHL
🏟
Saturday 22nd October – 5:15PM KO
After a tricky midweek matchday for both teams, Sint-Truiden and OHL play each other on the Stayen artificial turf.
OHL had a disastrous preparation for its previous game due to a flu outbreak. Five players were left home sick and during the bus move on matchday, the bus had to stop regularly because newly infected players were puking. It showed in the game. Many passes did not arrive, few runs and little energy. Unfortunately for them, the next game is already Saturday.
Sint-Truiden had a difficult evening against champion Club Brugge. It did not get beyond 30% ball possession and thus limited itself to defending its own box. When Vanaken broke the spell for Club Brugge after 20 minutes, Sint-Truiden hardly featured in the game. It turned out to be a disappointing evening for the canaries. However, the team can draw on its strong home reputation. It will play for the three points against a battered opponent. Curious to see if coach Hollerbach will come up with a more offensive lineup.
In all likelihood the OHL squad will not be free of the virus. Coach Brys let it be known that he will wait until the last minute with his line-up. The artificial grass should suit the technically skilled OHL players, but the physical play of Sint Truiden will hurt them. Sint-Truiden has a great opportunity to take another three points at home against a suptopper. They will have to dictate the game, which they are less happy to do. Therefore, we expect a rather sloppy game from both teams. If a favorite has to be pointed out, it is the home team. However, they will have a hard time opening up the match, as they actually prefer to leave the ball to the opposing team. Under 2.5 goals is therefore valued in a bet on a few goals.
