Elche v Girona
🏟
Tuesday 8th November – 6:00PM KO
Winless Elche host the first of the midweek round’s fixtures and they’ll do so with yet another new coach. They’ve fired Jorge Almirón after five matches, after previously sacking Francisco just one month ago. The club’s technical secretary Sergio Mantecón will take charge of this midweek game against Girona, before they look for a third ‘permanent’ coach of the season during the World Cup break.
Even though Elche are in terrible form and deservedly bottom of the table, with just four points, their games have been fun to watch as their fixtures are producing a lot of goals. So far this season, matches involving Elche have had an average of 2.92 goals, which is the fourth highest number in this category in the division.
Third-highest in average goals per game is Girona, as their games have been producing 3.00 total goals on average. They are scoring and conceding a lot, with both teams having scored in each of Girona’s past 10 matches. In Elche’s case, they don’t score as much as Girona do, but six of their past 10 fixtures have also seen both teams score.
As Elche give their all to try to secure their first victory of the season in Matchday 14, the final round before the World Cup, and as Girona look to keep up their impressive run of form, we should see goals at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.

Osasuna v Barcelona
🏟
Tuesday 8th November – 8:30PM KO
Barcelona remain in fine form domestically, having dropped just five points from the first 13 rounds of the season and having won each of their past four in this competition. Osasuna have recovered form too and approach this game with three wins and a draw from their past four LaLiga fixtures. It should, then, be a fascinating encounter at El Sadar and it’ll be live on ITV4 in the UK.
Barça do look much more impressive right now, though, as the Catalan side haven’t conceded any goals across their run of four consecutive league wins. They’ll also welcome back a couple more defenders from injury for this game to further solidify that defence. Although this will be Gerard Piqué’s final game, he isn’t expected to play as he was able to enjoy an ovation at home in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Almería. Instead, Xavi will ditch sentimentality and opt for his strongest possible back line for this one.
Up front, Barcelona will hope to take more of their chances than they did in that 2-0 win over Almería, when they had 10 other shots on target that were saved by Fernando Martínez. Here, that should be more possible since Osasuna’s starting goalkeeper Sergio Herrera is still a major injury doubt. His backup Aitor Fernández is a decent goalkeeper too, but Barça’s attack should have more than enough firepower to get the job done on Tuesday night.
Given that this is Barcelona’s final fixture in any competition before the World Cup break, Xavi can go all out for victory in this game, something Osasuna can only do to a certain extent since they do have a Copa del Rey fixture coming up on Saturday.
