The Masters 2023 starts Thursday 6th April

Live on Sky Sports Golf
One of the highlights of the sporting year gets underway this week with the world’s best golfers competing for the Masters at Augusta National. Tiger Woods will have all the attention on his shoulders but the battle for the Green Jacket will surely prove beyond him. Heavy rain forecast this week will only lengthen the 7,545 yard par 72 which only plays into the hands of the game’s biggest hitters.
World number one Scottie Scheffler won the Masters 12 months ago but defending champions have a poor record at Augusta National. John Rahm soared out of the gates this year with three wins but his form has tailed off over the last month. So who is fancied to land the year’s first major and what are the top five players to follow?
1. Jordan Spieth to Win Outright
📈
Sky Bet Odds: 17.0 (8 Places E/W)
Jordan Spieth has already won the Masters and looks the pick of the field to triumph as he goes in search of his third victory on Easter Sunday in as many years. Spieth has a stunning record at Augusta National, with his win in 2015 bolstered by four other top-three finishes.
Spieth’s creativity and touch is perfectly suited to handling the demands of the course, with his ability to get out of trouble a huge asset. The three-time major champion has contended several times this season and could easily be heading to Augusta with a recent title. Third at the Valspar Championship and fourth at Bay Hill last month were strong showings that have sharpened him up for another bold challenge at his favourite course. Expect Spieth to contend heavily this weekend and he is the best bet at 16-1.

2. Rory McIlroy to Win Outright
📈
Sky Bet Odds: 8.0 (8 Places E/W – Joint Favourite)
Rory McIlroy will be hard to keep out of the frame and the 7-1 joint favourite must have a massive chance of finally completing the grand slam. McIlroy will absolutely relish the forecast conditions with rain-softened target golf playing into his hands. The four-time major champion could be peaking at just the right time, after an excellent showing on his last start at the WGC Matchplay. McIlroy tweaked his driver for the tournament and it paid off on his run to third place with a victory over Scheffler in Austin.
The world number two started the year in style, with a win at the Dubai Desert Classic and he returns to Augusta National after a fast-finishing second place 12 months ago. McIlroy, who was also runner-up at Bay Hill last month, leads the tour for driving distance and is ranked second for strokes gained tee to green. With seven top tens in the last nine years at the Masters, McIlroy holds huge claims and looks the pick of the big three.

3. Tony Finau to Win E/W
📈
Sky Bet Odds: 23.0 (8 Places E/W)
Tony Finau has looked a potential Masters champion since his eventful debut in 2018 and the powerful American can land his maiden major title this weekend. Finau’s 10th place on his first visit was a remarkable feat considering he dislocated his ankle at the par-three tournament.
The following year Finau finished fifth after playing in the final group with Woods and he was 10th again in 2021. Over the last year, Finau has turned into a winning machine with three titles since the end of last summer. He has not finished outside the top 25 since last November and his long game is in great shape. Ranked third for strokes gained on approach and fifth for the tee to green, 22-1 shot Finau has never headed to the Masters with more confidence.

4. Xander Schauffele to Win E/W
📈
Sky Bet Odds: 26.0 (8 Places E/W)
Xander Schauffele is another likely champion and the American can finally get his hands on his first major. Schauffele has compiled a stellar record in the sport’s biggest events and twice contended at the Cathedral of Pines. The seven-time PGA Tour winner was runner-up at Augusta National in 2019 and third in 2021. Schauffele burst into life last summer, with back-to-back wins in America and Scotland but now looks ready to rediscover his A Game in time for a tilt at the Green Jacket.
Third place at the American Express early on this year was a strong marker and he looked sharp on his last start with a run to the quarter-finals of the WGC Matchplay. With six top fives in majors since his first appearance in 2017, Schauffele is a proven big-time contender and each-way value at 25-1.

5. Justin Rose to Win E/W
📈
Sky Bet Odds: 51.0 (8 Places E/W)
Justin Rose stands out as arguably the best each-way option at 50/1 to upset the favourites. Rose has been a factor at the Masters throughout his career, with his nearest miss a playoff defeat to Sergio Garcia in 2017. The former world number one has no fewer than six top 10s at Augusta National and it would be no surprise if he adds to that record this weekend.
Rose ended a four-year wait for a victory with success in February at Pebble Beach and his resurgence was underlined by sixth place at the Players Championship last month. Rose knows how to score in tough conditions around Augusta and is likely to give us a a shot of landing this 50/1.
