Luton Town begin their home campaign
Luton have been unable to host a league game up to this point of the season due to complications with their home stadium Kenilworth Road. Tonight, the fans finally have the opportunity to watch their team play in the Premier League at their home. It’s a momentous day for the club and it would be even more special if they could mark it with their first victory.
So far Luton have struggled to get going in the league. They have played two games and lost both, one being a 4-1 loss to Brighton and the other being a 3-0 loss to Chelsea. West Ham are not quite on the same level as those two but they are still a team with huge quality. It’ll be yet another huge test for the Hatters.
Luton are currently priced at 4.5 to win the game, whilst West Ham are 1.75. Unless their form improves drastically, it’s likely that Luton will be the underdogs in every match they play. What makes a Luton win a little bit more fascinating this time around is the story behind the game. As it’s their first home game in the Premier League, might the scriptwriters have something tasty in store for us?
Luton team news
Luton will be without Dan Potts and Jordan Clarke who will both be out for ‘a number of months’. Gabriel Osho is also a doubt, although he will be assessed ahead of the game. The good news is that Ross Barkley is back to full fitness and will be available to start against West Ham. The former Everton and Chelsea man could be a difference-maker.
West Ham’s new man showing ‘Ward-Prowess’
West Ham have been one of the busier clubs in the transfer window this summer, largely due to the departure of Declan Rice for a record £105m fee. They have signed Konstantinos Mavropanos, Edson Alvarez and most recently Mohamed Kudus but the most impressive performer so far has been James Ward-Prowse.
Known as a set piece specialist and chance creator during his time at Southampton, he has continued this at West Ham. So far this season he has produced 3.18 shot-creating actions per 90 and has completed 75% of his attempted passes. He is also the top assister at the club. He is 3.4 to get an assist against Luton.
West Ham team news
West Ham are missing only Tomáš Souček (concussion) and Konstantinos Mavropanos (back injury). They will be able to field close to their strongest XI.

Luton v West Ham
Adebayo has committed five fouls so far this season in just two appearances, an average of 3.3 per 90. He is one of those strikers who loves the physical battle, he presses high and constantly makes a nuisance of himself.
He will be occupying the right hand side of the Luton attack, the two defenders who are likely to be up against him are Emerson and Ogbonna. The two Italians have been fouled seven times in total so far this season.
Michail Antonio will most likely start up top for West Ham as he does week in week out. He is their target man and the focal point of the attack. With Ward-Prowse, Bowen, Paqueta and Benrahma behind him he shouldn’t struggle to find opportunities to shoot.
He has had three shots on target in the league this season which equates to one per game or 1.15 per 90.
Luton have conceded 20 shots on target in their opening two games, it’s highly likely they will ship a few more in their next game as West Ham will see a fair bit of the ball.
Goalkeeper saves is one of the new markets that has been introduced by Paddy Power this season. It’s one that looks to have great value.
The game today is Luton’s first home game of the season, having the home fans behind them will give them that extra edge. Expect them to come out of the blocks fast and fire a few shots at West Ham’s goal.
So far this season, Alphonse Areola has averaged five saves per 90. For this bet we’re just looking for two, which looks to be very achievable.
Cards have been flying about in the Premier League this season which has largely come down to the changes in the laws. Cards can be given for much less than before. Dissent towards the referee is tolerated a lot less.
Both of Luton’s matches this season have had more than 3.5 cards – four and five respectively. West Ham’s games have all also had more than 3.5, with the peak being a huge seven cards in their game against Chelsea.
