Partick Thistle have dragged themselves firmly into the Scottish Championship title race heading into the home straight, and on current form the Jags look worth backing to avoid defeat away at Ayr on Saturday afternoon. Back-to-back wins over Raith Rovers and Ross County, combined with St Johnstone’s slip-up against Queen’s Park, mean Mark Wilson’s men will start the weekend just three points off the summit. What’s more, Partick are currently enjoying a nine-match unbeaten run in the Scottish Championship and have lost just four of their 31 league matches all season.
That does not bode well for an Ayr side who have failed to beat Thistle in three previous attempts this term. Moreover, the hosts parted company with manager Scott Brown at the start of the week following a disappointing run that has seen the Honest Men claim just one win from their last 11 Scottish Championship matches, slipping to 8th in the table in the process.
With all things considered, title-chasing Partick look well placed to come away from this contest with at least a point, if not more.
