This should be a really exciting cup final between two relatively well-matched sides. Jack Wilshere’s Luton side have been an entertaining watch since the former Arsenal player took over at the club; they’ve seen BTTS in four of their last five matches ahead of this clash, remaining unbeaten across these games.
Luton also saw BTTS in their semi-final clash against Northampton, coming away 2-1 winners in that game. Luton have seen BTTS in 10 of their last 11 matches across all competitions, with Wilshere’s side also seeing BTTS in the quarter final of this competition as they came away 2-1 winners over Plymouth. Their scoring power makes up for their defensive vulnerability, setting the stage for BTTS here.
Stockport held Luton to a 1-1 draw when the sides met earlier in the season, and come into this clash having avoided defeat in each of their last five matches - seeing BTTS in three of these games, including a 2-2 draw against Bolton last time out.
Only Dom Ballard (21) has scored more goals in League One this season than Kyle Wootton (19). Wootton’s tally is particularly impressive given that none of his 19 goals have come from the penalty spot.
He’s scored two goals across his last five appearances for Stockport and should be able to cause Luton a few problems here as one of League One’s best finishers.
Wootton’s tally is particularly significant given that he’s scored 12 more goals than any other Stockport player, suggesting that Dave Challinor’s side rely on Wootton more than they probably should.
This does mean that Stockport focus most of their attacking play around Wootton, and make sure he’s got the best platform possible to find the back of the net.
The most recent league meeting between these sides produced 13 match corners, with Luton registering seven and Stockport racking up six.
This equal split suggests that both sides can contribute to the corner count in this clash, which is reflected in their numbers across the League One season.
Stockport are seeing 9.68 corners per game in League One this term, while Luton are averaging 10.24 corners per game. These healthy match corner totals should lead to both sides contributing to a decent corner count in this clash when combined with the urgency of a final, which could lead to a slight inflation in these corner numbers - as we saw when the sides met back in March.
