I admit that it would take a leap of faith to support a once-raced filly in this class of race, but being owned by Godolphin, she may be able to surprise. ABASHIRI created a striking impression, with an easy four-length success over a mile at Kempton in November. The daughter of Frankel may not have beaten much that day, but she is bred to be a smart type — she is a sister to English Rose, who won a Polytack novice event, before later going on to win a Group Two in Meydan. Her dam was also a Group One winner, which boosts confidence of how she can hopefully be up to this task. I think she’s worth a small wager at big odds, in what may prove to be a sub-standard renewal.

I cannot leave ESNA alone from an each-way perspective at huge odds. The Brian Meehan-trained Starman filly built on a promising Sandown debut, when an authoritative winner over 7f at the same venue — beating subsequent Listed Fielden Stakes scorer Morshdi in the process. Esna ran only just over two lengths behind current second favourite — Diamond Necklace — in Group One company at Longchamp next time. She has considerable scope for further improvement, if she has trained on this year, and I believe her price is generous, in a race packed full of promising fillies.
