Albania v Liechtenstein
📅
Kick Off: Monday 3rd June at 19:00
🏆
Competition: International Friendly
It is an unusual occurrence for Albania to need pre-tournament friendlies. This is only the second time that they have qualified for a finals, with the first being Euro 2016.
This Albanian squad definitely deserve their place at the finals though. They topped their qualification group, and have talented players who play in some of Europe’s strongest leagues.
For Liechtenstein, this is a typical situation of hoping that they can get something out of the game. Some of their better results have come in friendlies, but this feels like a training exercise for the Albanian team.
However, that is not to say that there aren’t bets to be had here. Let’s delve into the details.

Albania v Liechtenstein Best Bets
Albania will have scheduled this match hoping that it can provide fitness and a confidence boost ahead of a very difficult group stage with Spain, Italy, and Croatia to contend with in Group B.
All three matches that have previously taken place between these nations have been 2-0, but this is a much more talented Albanian side, potentially the best team in the nation’s history. This does have to be balanced with the fact that this is a pre-tournament friendly though, and effort should be kept to something short of maximum, especially at the end of a long season.
Albania have to be sided with, but at 1.04 in the odds, this has to be done creatively. With this being a good Albanian side, possibly looking for a confidence boost, there looks to be a good case for them to pass the 2-0 scoreline that they have managed previously.
The Albania (-2) handicap is 1.73 with Paddy Power and this looks to be a fair price. With the number of substitutions that would be expected in the second half, it is difficult to trust individual markets for goalscorers, but the players coming on should continue to be motivated to make an impact ahead of the tournament, therefore the -2 handicap is our recommended bet here.

⚔️ Albania v Liechtenstein Head-to-Head
Traditionally this would be a match seen as minnows v minnows and, as a result, this is a rarely played match in international history.
This will be the second friendly between the two, having played in 2008.
The other two matches were World Cup qualifiers in 2016 and 2017, so are a little bit more relevant in terms of form here, albeit very few of the Albanian squad in those matches are still involved in the current outfit.
📊 Albania Form and Stats
Albania are preparing for their second European Championships finals having also qualified in Euro 2016.
On this occasion, Albania topped the qualification group. The first time that they have ever managed to do so in any qualification group in their history. The Eastern Europeans managed 15 points from their eight matches, winning four and losing just once.
They are seven competitive matches unbeaten, but they haven’t won in three either. Indeed, their friendlies in March brought the nation back down to Earth somewhat with a 3-0 defeat to Chile in Parma, and a 1-0 loss to Sweden.
However, they defeated Czech Republic 3-0 and Poland 2-0 in their qualification group, two nations that will also be at the European Championship finals, so there are plenty of reasons to believe this is a capable and organised Albanian set-up.
📊 Liechtenstein Form and Stats
As is the way for the smallest nations in UEFA, Liechtenstein’s existence is a challenging one. They are currently ranked #202 in the FIFA world rankings, having been as high as #118 in their history, which tells us that the central European nation are at something of a low ebb in their recent history.
Last time out Liechtenstein drew 1-1 with Estonia in Cyprus, which involved their first goal in seven internationals. Indeed, that draw was the first time in 24 internationals stretching back to September 2021 that Liechtenstein had managed to avoid defeat.
They haven’t won any game since a friendly against Luxembourg in October 2020.
