🟡 Spain v Switzerland #OddsOnThat Tip
Spain confirmed a top spot finish in League A Group 4 of the Nations League after beating Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen, so can afford to take their foot off the gas for this one. Alejandro Baena and Martin Zubimendi have since returned to their respective domestic clubs due to injury, while Mikel Oyarzabal has also departed as he is suspended.
Luis de la Fuente might be expected to rotate his side here, providing an opportunity for players to make their national debut. Similarly, it might be in the back of the players’ mind that qualification is already ensured, so complacency could be a factor to consider.
Switzerland also have nothing to gain from this match, as they had their relegation from League A secured following a 1-1 draw to Serbia. They will be unable to overtake them regardless of the outcome here, due to their head-to-head record. However, Switzerland are yet to register a win in the competition, so might look to leave on a positive note and push for victory.
Spain have conceded just two goals in the competition so far, although Switzerland accounted for one of those. In Geneva, Murat Yakin’s side created several good scoring chances (helped by an early red card to Robin Le Normand), and had an additional goal ruled out. They were able to cause problems to the Spanish rearguard, and will be looking to do something similar in Tenerife.
The Swiss have also accrued five or more corners in four Nations League games so far, only failing in round one against Denmark in which they completed the game with nine men. In total, they are averaging 5.6 corners per game, rising to 6.75 corners per game if excluding that first game. Spain have conceded five or more corners on two occasions this term, including the reverse fixture.
In addition to Robin Le Normand receiving his marching orders, Dani Carvajal and Ferran Torres were also booked for Spain in that previous game against Switzerland. Despite there being nothing to gain for the hosts, a competitive atmosphere is nevertheless expected, especially if newcomers are introduced, as they will be eager to impress.
Switzerland opponents have been awarded two or more yellow cards in four of their five Nations League games so far, while Spain have landed the cards selection in three out of five.
Given the above data, 14/1 looks like a big price for these selections.
