A resurgent Bayern Munich travel to Dortmund for the Bundesliga’s first Klassiker of the season which takes centre stage in the Topspiel on Saturday evening with the club’s on level points heading into MD9. Julian Nagelsmann’s side ended their run of four games without a win last weekend when they emphatically beat Bayer Leverkusen whilst Borussia Dortmund, not for the first time this season, threw away a lead in a game they were comfortable in.
With three successive draws and a defeat, Bayern needed a response against Leverkusen last weekend because despite public backing, questions would have been asked about Nagelsmann. Meanwhile, Dortmund officials are confident in Edin Terzic, despite three defeats in their last five games across all competitions.
Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich Bet Builder Tips
Bayern Munich to Win
Despite Bayern Munich picking up just three points from a possible 12 prior to last weekend’s win against Bayer Leverkusen, they come into Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund full of confidence. With four wins, a draw and defeat in their last six games across all competitions, that run includes wins in the Champions League against Inter and Barcelona. They then put five past Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night before Dortmund played the following night, meaning Sadio Mané and Co. have an extra 24 hours rest.
After recovering from Covid-19, Nagelsmann did state that Joshua Kimmich will travel after missing the last two games, but Thomas Müller remains in Munich with cold symptoms, despite returning a negative test. With three clean sheets in their last four games in all competitions, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt are creating quite the partnership in central-defence. In midfield, Marcel Sabitzer has shone this season and it will be difficult for Leon Goretzka to displace the Austrian, alongside Kimmich.
As for Dortmund, they will be without Marco Reus but Terzic did say that Gio Reyna and Mats Hummels will return, whilst Gregor Kobel could claim his No. 1 spot back after recovering from a back injury. BVB comfortably beat a poor Sevilla side in the Champions League on Wednesday but with three defeats in their last five games, they’ve struggled to pose any real attacking threat, especially when Anthony Modeste leads the line. Bayern have also won their last four games at the Signal Iduna Park. A resurged side, they can make it five on Saturday.

Prediction: Bayern Munich to Win
Leroy Sane to have 3+ Shots
With Thomas Müller remaining in Europe, we’ll likely see a trio of Sadio Mané, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané behind Serge Gnabry. In his press conference, Julian Nagelsmann did provide positive news with the return of Kingsley Coman, but it’s unlikely that the Frenchman will start ahead of Sané after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Without Robert Lewandowski, following his summer move to Barcelona, Bayern Munich are much more fluid in attack. Often starting on the right-flank, we’ll see Sané drift inside and move into the No. 10 position, Mané playing centrally alongside Gnabry and Musiala drifting towards the left. It’s something we can expect to see against Dortmund on Saturday evening.
As for Sané, he’s scored eight and created three in 13 games across all competitions for Bayern Munich this season. Averaging 3.8 shots per 90 in the Bundesliga, 47% of the German’s shots end up on target. Year on year, Sané has increased his shot volume from 1.77 per 90 in 2020/21, 2.7 per 90 in 2021/22 and now 3.8 shots per 90. Under Nagelsmann this season, he’s been given much more freedom and as earlier alluded to, without Lewandowski we’re seeing shots spread across the attacking players. He’s only averaged 69 minutes per 90 across the Bundesliga this season but as usual, he’s likely to see plenty of the ball, and action.

Prediction: Leroy Sane to have 3+ Shots
Sadio Mane to Score Anytime
With four goals across four games in all competitions at the start of the season, Sadio Mané’s Bayern Munich career got off to a flying start. The Senegalese forward operated alongside Thomas Müller in a 4-2-2-2. However, Nagelsmann switched to a 4-2-3-1 which saw Mané, despite getting in the right positions, struggle in the games that followed.
Mané went on a run of six games across all competitions without scoring. He received the backing of Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić who himself knows how difficult it can be moving to a completely different league. He said that he talks to Mané on an almost daily basis and has full confidence that the former Liverpool forward will regain his form.
And that he did. In the games that followed, Mané scored against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, before scoring and assisting against Viktoria Plzen in midweek. In the Bundesliga, Jamal Musiala (5) is Bayern’s top scorer, ahead of Mané (4). Watching Mané, his movement is truly world class. Only Sané (3.8) and Musiala (3) average more shots per 90 in the Bundesliga this season than Mané (2.8) but in the attacking third, he’s Bayern’s most potent threat. 68% of his shots hit the target, and he averages the most shots on target per 90 (1.88) of any Bayern Munich player.
With Bayern’s mini-resurgence, the team full of confidence and Mané back in form, Saturday’s game against Borussia Dortmund could see the Senegalese forward shine. Against a Dortmund side that has conceded nine goals in five games, Mané to score this weekend.
