A 1-0 loss against Aston Villa last weekend abruptly halted Man City’s unbeaten streak, meaning Pep Guardiola’s men find themselves fifth in the Premier League standings with a sizeable six point gap to close on Arsenal, but also a two-point gap to close on Bournemouth.

The Cherries have been in exceptional form this season, setting this game up nicely to be a cracker.

Man City to Win

Andoni Iraola deserves immense credit for the job he has done at Bournemouth this season, even after having to contend with several key players departing over the summer. The Cherries have lost just one game all season, but it did come against Liverpool at Anfield, and this could be a similar game for them.

Bournemouth have gone unbeaten in each of their last six league games, but the toughest opponent they have faced in that time is Crystal Palace, who currently sit tenth in the league - the other five teams are all in the bottom-half of the standings.

The Cherries have lost nine of their last 10 head-to-head encounters against Man City, during which they have conceded a total of 28 goals. With the Citizens coming into this clash with a full squad of players looking in good form, it could be a really tough test for them at the Etihad.

Over 2.5 Goals

For all their positive results, Bournemouth haven't quite been so watertight at the back, as they have shipped a total of 11 goals from their nine league matches. Nine of those goals conceded have come from their four away matches, which has been an area of struggle for the south coast side.

They let in four against Liverpool at Anfield in gameweek one, and three goals against Crystal Palace in their previous away outing. Even newly-promoted Leeds put two past Bournemouth.

But the key thing is that Bournemouth also scored multiple goals in all of those games to land this selection. The Cherries have remained strong in the final third, and have the third-most league goals to their name so far.

Alongside Chelsea, Man City are the only side to have provided more entertainment than Bournemouth, making this a clash between two of the leagues’ most attack-minded sides, which lends itself to backing goals.

Erling Haaland to Score Anytime

With a high-scoring game on the cards, Erling Haaland naturally becomes a player to target. The Norwegian international has been in incredible form this season, and already has 15 goals to his name from 12 appearances in all competitions - that is before taking into account the eight goals from four games while on international duty.

The big man was left frustrated last weekend against Aston Villa, as he failed to score for the first time in 12 matches, but having been afforded a rest in midweek, he has had plenty of time to reset and get himself in the right headspace for this match.

Even despite failing to score, Haaland forced three saves from Emi Martinez, and was still heavily involved in the final third. It’s so difficult to keep him out of the game, and Bournemouth’s away record suggests he could get plenty of chances once again.

Eli Kroupi Junior to have 2+ Shots

Andoni Iraola has been fortunate in the sense that he hasn’t had many injuries to contend with so far this term. Evanilson is the only player currently in the treatment room, but his absence has provided an opportunity for Eli Kroupi Junior. The Frenchman scored 22 goals for Lorient last season, helping them to secure promotion to the French top flight.

The 19-year-old then completed a move to the Premier League, and he has looked incredibly lively in recent weeks. It took him just seven minutes to score his first Premier League goal on his first league start for the club against Crystal Palace, and he doubled that tally shortly before the second-half.

Again, he managed to get on the scoresheet against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, racking up three shots before being replaced after 60 minutes. He clearly has a knack for popping up in dangerous positions, and will lead the line for Bournemouth this weekend.

Alejandro Jiminez to be Shown a Card

Alejandro Jimenez has made six appearances for his new club Bournemouth since moving from AC Milan over the summer, and he has already been booked three times. His first yellow card came on his debut against Brighton - despite only featuring for 10 minutes, he was booked for time wasting.

He then struggled on his first start for the Cherries against Newcastle, committing two fouls which earned him a card, before being withdrawn at half-time. He also was booked against Leeds for another rash challenge.

The 20-year-old is in for his toughest test this weekend, lining up against Jeremy Doku on the flank. Jimenez has taken some time to adapt to the physicality and intensity of the English top flight, and he has shown a tendency to find himself in the referee’s notebook. In fact, he was booked six times for AC Milan last season, despite only starting 14 games.

Tijani Reijnders to have 1+ Shots on Target

Tijjani Reijnders is a player who will recognise Alejandro Jimenez, given that they both played at AC Milan last season. The Rossoneri finished eighth in a disappointing campaign, but Reijnders was a standout performer, with 15 goals to his name in all competitions.

While he hasn’t quite hit those same heights at Man City so far, the Dutch international has still been an important player for Pep Guardiola, with plenty of attacking involvement. In fact, Reijnders is averaging 2.76 shots per 90 this season in all competitions, and has started in all nine Premier League matches.

He has hit this mark in five of those games, although there is certainly room for improvement given his record from last season, and the fact that only 26% of his efforts have hit the target. In a positive matchup on Sunday, Reijnders will hope to find some form.

Antoine Semenyo to Commit 3+ Fouls

Bournemouth should have plenty of defensive work to get through on Sunday afternoon, and it helps to have a player like Antoine Semenyo for these kinds of games. The Ghanaian international likes to get stuck into duels, and help out his fullback defensively. In fact, Semenyo racked up the most fouls of any player in the Premier League last season.

He has been able to continue that trend this season, ranking second, only behind Sasa Lukic of Fulham. Semenyo is averaging 2.33 fouls per 90 in the Premier League this term, which is amongst the highest in the Bournemouth squad.

He has seen a notable increase in infringements on the road, landing at least two fouls in all four of his matches. That was a similar trend last season - his average of 2.29 fouls per 90 in away games was much higher than the 1.83 fouls per 90 average at the Vitality Stadium.

📈 Man City v Bournemouth Form & Tactics

A poor start to the season saw Man City lose two of their opening three league matches, but they were able to mount a comeback after those defeats. Guardiola’s men won four of their next five, while also taking a point from Arsenal at the Emirates, but they were halted in their tracks at the weekend.

Matty Cash scored from outside the box within 20 minutes, and the hosts were able to hold on to their slender lead despite an onslaught from Man City. The visitors racked up 18 shots, but Villa did well to restrict many clear-cut openings. Erling Haaland had the pick of the bunch, but was unable to convert, while he also had a goal ruled out for offside.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth also went into last weekend hoping to keep their unbeaten streak intact, and the Cherries were more successful in the endeavour. They beat a struggling Nottingham Forest 2-0 on home turf, restricting the visitors to just 0.37xG.

However, there has been a real dichotomy in Bournemouth’s defensive performance at home compared to away - they have conceded the second-lowest xG tally at home this season, second to Arsenal. But on their travels, Bournemouth rank 17th in the league for total xGA.

📔 Man City v Bournemouth Formation & Team News

There was no midweek game for the Cherries, following their loss against Brentford in the EFL Cup earlier in the campaign. Because of that, they have had the whole week to rest and prepare for this match, and they are likely to go with a similar 11 to that which beat Forest.

Semenyo, Marcus Tavernier and Justin Kluivert should play in behind Eli Kroupi, while Tyler Adams and Alex Scott partner up in midfield. Veljko Milosavljevic was preferred to Bafode Diakite at the weekend, and could partner Marcos Senesi at the back again.

Guardiola made plenty of changes midweek against Swansea, with Abdukodir Khusanov making his return to the starting lineup after a four-week hiatus. Rayan Cherki was also handed his second start in a City shirt, and he marked it with his second goal for the club.

This weekend, Erling Haaland will likely return to the starting 11 after brushing off any injury doubts sustained at Villa Park, as should Phil Foden. Jeremy Doku will hope to retain his place out wide after scoring against Swansea, while Savinho will challenge him for a starting spot.
