Sunderland sat fourth in the Premier League back in November, but a poor run of just two wins in their last 10 league games has seen them slip into the bottom half of the table. They now host Burnley on Monday night, hoping to reverse their fortunes and get back on track.

📈 Sunderland v Burnley Form & Tactics

Sunderland were on the receiving end of a shock result last weekend as they lost 3-1 against a struggling West Ham side. It wasn’t a particularly close game, either. The Hammers raced to a 3-0 lead in the first-half, with the scoreline looking like it could get out of hand. However, the hosts took their foot off the gas for the second period, in what was a rather uneventful 45 minutes.

Sunderland haven’t been as convincing in recent weeks, and have won just one of their last eight across all competitions. The Black Cats have been a stubborn opponent to face this season, and will hope to re-discover some of their early season form.

Meanwhile, Burnley’s last Premier League win came all the way back in October, when they beat basement-dwellers Wolves. The Clarets followed that result up with seven successive losses, but have shown signs of improvement since then. They have taken five points from their previous seven games, with draws against Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United.

It seemed like Burnley were finally going to break their winless run last weekend, but Cristian Romero levelled the scores in the 90th minute, leaving the Clarets disappointed at Turf Moor.

📔 Sunderland v Burnley Formation & Team News

Axel Tuanzebe has returned to the first-team picture in recent weeks, and was on the scoresheet against Spurs. He is expected to play alongside Bashir Humphreys and Maxime Esteve at the back here.

Kyle Walker provided the assist for Tuanzebe, and will continue to feature at wingback, with Lucas Pires on the opposite flank. Jaidon Anthony and Marcus Edwards should start further forward, looking to provide for Armando Broja up front.

Regis Le Bris made three changes at half-time against West Ham, and could opt for several changes here. Habib Diarra could come into the starting eleven in place of Trai Hume, with Chemsdine Talbi on the opposite wing. Reinildo struggled against Jarrod Bowen, and could make way for Dennis Cirkin.

Granit Xhaka was the most notable absentee for the Black Cats last weekend, and is unlikely to feature here once again. Sunderland looked a lot less assured in midfield without the former Arsenal man.
