  • Liverpool secured a dramatic 2-1 victory in the Merseyside derby last Sunday, as Virgil van Dijk headed home from a corner in the 100th minute to snatch all three points in the derby.

  • That result puts the Reds in fifth, five points above Brighton with a game in hand.

  • Crystal Palace are loitering down in 13th place in the league, but they have won all three meetings against Liverpool this season across all competitions.

📈 Liverpool v Crystal Palace Form & Stats

Liverpool's win in the Merseyside derby last Sunday was a much-needed three points, especially after they were dumped out of the Champions League by PSG. It wasn’t much of a contest against the Parisians, who won 4-0 on aggregate across the two legs. That means the primary focus for Liverpool now is the league, and they come into this clash following back-to-back wins, which hasn’t happened too often this campaign. They have struggled to string together a consistent run of positive results, but will hope to extend their winning run this weekend.

Crystal Palace have also been in a decent patch of form, and have lost just one of their last eight matches across all competitions. The one defeat was a 2-1 loss against Fiorentina in the Conference League, but that was enough to see the Eagles through to the semi-finals, after they won the first leg 3-0 at home.

Palace were held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham last time out, which extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the league, but Oliver Glasner’s men have shown a bit more defensive resilience in recent weeks. They are well clear of the relegation zone now, so don’t have much pressure on them for the final few matches of the season.

📔 Liverpool v Crystal Palace Formation & Team News

Still, Palace will want to end Glasner’s tenure on a high, so he is expected to name his strongest eleven this weekend. Will Hughes and Jefferson Lerma should continue in midfield as Adam Wharton remains out with a muscle injury. Daichi Kamada could be a potential option to come into the starting eleven, while Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz should continue as the wingbacks. Maxence Lacroix shook off any injury concerns from the Conference League to feature against West Ham last time out, so it should be a familiar back three for the Eagles.

Liverpool were dealt a significant injury blow as Hugo Ekitike has suffered a serious ankle injury, so Alexander Isak should lead the line. After scoring in the Merseyside derby, Mo Salah should keep his spot on the right wing, with Cody Gakpo on the opposite flank. Jeremie Frimpong could return to the starting eleven at right back to replace Curtis Jones.
