Introduction
The Danes had an exceptional European Championships in 2020 as they reached the semi-finals, only losing to England after a controversial extra-time penalty. The rivals will have to meet again in the group stages this time around, with both nations favoured to qualify from Group C. Serbia and Slovenia make up the remainder of the group and Denmark will feel very positive about the draw.
There would be slightly more positivity around the country had they been more impressive in the World Cup in 2022. There looked to be a similarly lop-sided group on that occasion with Denmark drawn alongside France, Australia, and Tunisia. Indeed, the setup of the fixtures is also very similar to two years ago with Denmark facing the top seeds in the middle of the group. In the World Cup, they began slowly against Tunisia, played well against France but lost, and succumbed to the pressure against Australia, leaving Qatar without a win and bottom of a supposedly easy group.
There is also some concern over the form of some of Denmark’s key individuals. Rasmus Hojlund’s big move to Manchester United has been less than a qualified success, Christian Eriksen has barely featured for United, and Mikkel Damsgaard hasn’t really worked at Brentford so far.
However, there is a certain strength in depth in the Danish squad these days, and competition for places in most positions. There is also experience from the last couple of tournaments, as well as a degree of youth in Hojlund, Damsgaard, Matt O’Riley, Mads Hermansen, Victor Kristiansen, and Mohamed Daramy all 23 or under.

🔮 Euro 2024 predictions
Tournament Prediction: Round of 16
It has to be the goal of Denmark to reach at least the quarter-finals of this event. The group is definitely one in which they should feel confident in qualifying from.
They have a decent record against England, winning two and drawing one of the last six meetings, and if they could get something from that match, then qualification should be assured, given their record against the other nations in the group.
Denmark have three wins out of three against Serbia, and five wins and a draw in six meetings with Slovenia. Whilst this is strong form, much of it is also historic, and cannot be relied upon completely.
The tricky part in predicting how well Denmark will do is the difference in the paths of qualifiers from Group C. If they can win the group then the route looks very appealing, but a runners-up or third-place qualification sees them taking on group winners from the round of 16 onwards, beginning with a potential meeting with neighbours and hosts Germany.
Denmark are traditional dark horses for major tournaments, but they probably lack a little bit of form in their key men to be expected to reach the latter stages. A round of 16 knockout would be our prediction, which you can get on Paddy Power at odds of 2.20 on Paddy Power
Denmark Euro 2024 Qualifying Data
📖 How they qualified
They finished top of qualification Group H, winning seven and drawing one in ten. The defeat to Northern Ireland occurred in the final round when top spot had already been guaranteed. It is Denmark’s fourth straight qualification for a finals, their best run since the late 1990s/early 2000s.
Denmark’s home form in the qualification campaign was flawless with five wins out of five. An early slip-up in Kazakhstan was well rectified with a tricky away win in Helsinki and a solid point in Slovenia. Six wins in a row in the middle of the fixtures pretty much confirmed qualification for the Danes and allowed them to start planning for Germany.
Star men in qualification were Rasmus Hojlund, who top-scored in the group with seven goals in his maiden campaign, and the returning Christian Eriksen, who supplied three assists and a goal despite only playing 540 minutes.
Kasper Schmeichel was the only player to play every minute of the campaign, with Pierre-Emile Hojberg the outfield player with the most minutes.
👕 Players to watch
The obvious place to start for Denmark is Rasmus Hojlund. The Manchester United forward has had a remarkably strong start to his international career with seven goals in twelve caps, and all seven coming in competitive internationals. His running power is better utilised for Denmark than for Man Utd with the style of play implemented by Kasper Hjulmand. Depending on the match, he may even have the help of a partner in Kasper Dolberg or Yussef Poulsen, which will help Hojlund to get a little more space.
Andreas Christensen has shown a new string to his bow at Barcelona this season having been pressed into action as a defensive midfielder. His footballing ability at the back for Denmark adds to an already impressive backline of established players such as Joachim Andersen, Jannik Vestergaard, and Simon Kjaer, now Denmark’s record cap holder. Christensen will be key in keeping the defence locked up.
